A-kon @ Dallas AMVS

Post by Jace Tsunami » Fri Nov 15, 2002 11:54 pm

I attend a-kon every year but I've never entered any videos, I was just curious as to everyone's thoughts that have entered videos at a-kon. Even if not at a-kon if you've ever entered videos at a con what it's like. It looks like a bit of an effort, to really make an impact with a video, and I just wanted to know if it's worth it. So what are all of your thoughts, even if you didn't win anything from entering your video I'd like to know about it.

I entered Akon last year! :D The viewing room was massive and the technical side was handled decently except for a few problems (Sorry about the audio Wonka :( ) They allowed around 40 entries into the contest screening, so if you send something in, there's a very good chance it will make it into the contest. Not all the vids were the greatest in terms of quality or concept but it was nice that almost everyone got a chance to see them on the big screen. :D

How many entries does A-kon usually get every year?

My chances of going next year are looking pretty slim but I hope that'll change... :(

I have plans to go to Akon with some friends from another board. I might enter something.

Sounds fun, like you really had a blast. You've persuaded me to enter, but now that I'm going to do it what were everyones thoughts? Since you were there do you know who won the most stuff, and what the crowd really liked? You know, to give me a good idea of what type of video to make.

Brad Demoss and Castor Troy pretty much swept all the Akon awards last year. Check out some of their work to see what the people enjoy. :D

I have to say I was a little dissapointed with the videos shown last time, not even counting my vids demise. There just wernt that many quality videos shown, a ton of mediocre stuff actualy made the cut, and took the place of some realy good vids that I know where submited. It wasnt terrible per say, and the con itself was a blast, but when we saw the third AMV with watermarks and subtitles, it hit me that the akon staff must have just had a bunch of names in a hat and pulled at random.

Ah well, we did bitch alot, so they will probably have things run a little smoother this year. Im still gonna enter it ;)

The video made by the 10 year old girl should have swept the contest!
