We're not disrespecting those who run the contest, we're just saying what we like about how most people like to try and keep it as blind as possible. Hense why I said it would probably never be strictly blind (it's their contest to run as they like, and they'd get less entries >_>).
Well again, don't get me wrong. I agree with your sentiment, but the general feeling I get is one that discourages folks from entering things that they've premiered. That may not be the intention, but that's the feeling I get and I didn't want newer folks to feel discouraged.

Anyway Brad and Vlad sorta summarize my own thoughts pretty nicely. Dad in particular with this quote:
Vlad G Pohnert wrote:Quite honestly I think blind or not blind should not matter if your judging all the videos for the merit of the what they are and not who made them (I never care who made them when I judge in that respect) so I consider my judging to be "Blind" and not the fact I don't know who made it
I'm certainly not accusing anyone of anything, but like Vlad, I try to be as 'blind' and 'unbiased' as possible so it really shouldn't matter if I've seen a video or not since I'd like to think I can still choose the 'best one.' Seeing new things is of course great, but it ultimately shouldn't affect the end result of who wins (i.e. the best one regardless of premiere date).

*facepalm*
Why does this keep getting repeated? I don't think anyone in this thread is trying to change the rules.
As I said near the top of this post, I think it's b/c of the general vibe of discouraging older videos from even entering. Again, I realize that's not that intention, but it's certainly what I kinda felt.

Anyway moving along...I should start editing my entry today >_>.

I like pro since I feel that I can send in more personal work that is much different than what I send to a con audience. People laughed at my first pro entry until they realized I made it.

I should probably start ripping footage today... :x

I agree with this statement, and practice it myself, however I can't control everyone... and why I voiced my opinion earlier :3

This is the first time I've entered this contest, so I've yet to experience this "amazing surprise factor" everyone keeps mentioning O.o

And actually the only reason the ratio is higher for new videso winning is becasue 90% ARE new videos and that is all.. Last year a video that already made the con circuit won a category...

In the end it's not our rules, but the rules of the Event that one must follow...

Vlad
I really don't think blind matters at all at least in Pro or staff judged contests. Generally we and they tend to ignore who made the video for the most part. Audiences can be another matter if they are familiar with certain editors and videos. Taht said though, I do enjoy just guessing who made what in Pro. It's like a yearly AMV puzzle.

Blind voting

Post by MaboroshiStudio » Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:09 pm

Hostly I loved how AWA was blind judging and I would always want to premiere new videos at the AWA. That and I used to be a arrogant prick so the blind voted helped in a way LOL...

I am just finishing up on my wife's entry right now. Good lord removing lips can be so much fun... past two days up in smoke. I won't have an entry of my own this year for pro, but it was fun helping the wife on her first video. She just didn't let me edit with her lol... once she was done she said clean it up and that if I make any editing changes she wants to approve them.

Did you guys (Carl, specifically) get the last E mail I sent? I never got a reply, so I'm kinda wondering about it...
