I attended the NYAF last year and was at the music video contest. I know there were some serious technical problems during the playback of serveral videos during the contest. Have those been addressed?

September 1st?

That is plenty of time for a entry. :)

To those troubled by the legalese, didn't Otakon have a very similar item in their submission form last year? And that one you had to SIGN...

Don't worry, this year the assembly and editing of the AMV contest is in the hands of people who know video like the back of their hand. Hence, the acceptability of pretty much every well-known video file format. It's not impossible that things will go wrong (it is a big event, after all) but the likelihood will be greatly diminished. :)

I'm not sure, but nobody could truthfully say yes to that. If anyone submits something to your contest with that clause in they are lying. Furthermore, this is an unreasonable request because we edit without permission, no company will give us permission, and record labels have threatened legal action against us for even having AMVs brought up to them.

TO NYAFamv,
can people send in trailer parodies? If it is not meant to be funny, can it be sent to action adventure or do all trailers go to parody?

No, they haven't. At least not in the last six years that I've been submitting.

This is a very serious bit of "legalese" that could have major consequences for the AMV community as a whole. The last time record labels got involved with AMVs, we got the Wind-Up Records fiasco and almost three thousand videos getting pulled down. If even one person sees that clause and tries to go to the record label for permission, we could end up getting shut down entirely.

Honestly, with that clause in place, there is no way I'll be submitting, and I'll be encouraging every editor I know to avoid this event as well.

Okay, we have discussed with our lawyers, bought an ASCAP agreement, and now the entry page is available legalese-free! I hope everyone can enter now. Thanks to everyone who voiced their concerns.
