Using only 2 animes? Very different art...

Post by Sonydjsnmix » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:58 am

I'm in a little dilemma. I have a song that works amazingly well for two different animes. The song is too long for just one of the anime and cutting it short is not an option because it just ends up sounding odd. So I decided to use both animes and started editing. I showed a beta to my sisters and they all said that the 2 animes don't look good together.

I didn't really think of it until now. Both shows *Saint Tail and Glass Mask 2005* do have different art styles. They said either add another anime that's different looking from the other two animes to "balance things out" or stick with only one.

I can think plenty of amvs that used three animes that failed because two of them were too similar and the third one stuck out too much.

I don't really know any amvs that used only two animes that failed only because the art style was too different.

Any examples?

I remember an AMV a couple of years back that used Azumanga and Angelic Layer together. It really kind of worked out in the end, since it kind of had a good concept going, just really bad editing kind of killed it, not to mention lack of sync.

*perhaps you could send me a beta since I haven't seen either anime*

So long as the concept holds up, and the sources don't look like total shit, what's it matter if the art styles are totally different?

maybe you could try splitting the song into two parts with a small transition in the middle, have one part use one anime and the second part use the other. of course the way the song is laid out can affect how well that will work

Uses two shows with vastly different art styles, but solid concept and good editing make it work.

x2, this is a superb example, definitely the best one out there. It just goes straight ahead (ha ha) with the two sources pretty much playing off each other, and does it well. I'd definitely look at the way the sections are set up here, all really logical but in no way separated.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Not nearly as good as the previous example, but this should be a good example too... pale cocoon and amazing nuts have almost opposite visuals, but somehow I think they were blended together quite well in this amv. Not everyone thinks the same about it, but well, it's an example that it's possible to pull of a good amv with two sources with a different art style.

It sometimes can be distracting but I think it's the tone and color pallete of the show that can create a confounding contrast. Although I think this also applies to the theme of the video, i.e. if the theme fits one of the sources better than the other.

Example: If you were to put together an AMV that used Crayon Shin-Chan and Jin-Roh (assuming you have some sort of concrete idea that merrits this) it would be really freaking awkward.
