And why do people have to like anime? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if they don't like it let them be. Saying they don't understand the meaning IMO is just ignorant. Why should people look into something they don't like? If anime is not their taste then you shouldn't try to force it on them or act elitist saying that they don't like it because they just don't understand the meaning =l

The best answer is to live and let live. Some people like chocolate, some like vanilla. If you push too hard you will alienate your friends. Enjoy the things you do have in common.

That sounds exactly like me. No one around me likes anime with the exception of my cousin. I just kinda have to live with that. It's kind of annoying. Ah well, maybe one of these days I'll find some friends that actually like anime. =\Link in the first post wrote:So, what is an anime junkie to do when no one around him seems to share his enthusiasm for this great form of entertainment?

sorry should of put more planer. i know people have there own veiws they can keep it i don't care but wen explaned the complex of wat anime is and or manga i get the stuped remark of it's just cartoons and it is not i guess you can say i argue for arguements sake to get the point across to at least make some one under stand that not every thing is JUST!!!! cartoons but some thing more than that.
if they want to keep their opinion after that then fine by me at least i have put my peices in so they can think about it or forget it.
BUT if you don't like anime suit your self you don't like just try and don't put a damper in some one who's just found out about it let them make the choice.

Because of DBZ.
No, seriously, now everybody thinks anime's all about absurd hairdos, bulging muscles, and guys beating the crap out of each other for vaugley defined reasons. People also dislike the fanboys (otaku), When they call it a cartoon, they're usually like "dude, why is your like revolving around this, it just a cartoon."
Also, for people who do say "it's a cartoon" thinking a kiddy show, just tell them that the japanese's ethnic look prevented them from expanding too much into live action, so japanese cinama developed largely along an animated route to the extent that anime has just as many genras as western live action. That should at least quell them. then if you get a chance to show them some, do something realistic, thought provoking, and perhaps a little creepy, like gits sac 2nd gig or wolfs rain to quash the preconcived notions.

I'm just curious to know, what would you introduce people to anime with? People complain about action anime's like Naruto, Bleach, & DBZ ruining it for new comers but if you think about it, they stand on the same level of interest as any any anime for a newcomer. There's comedy anime like Haruhi, School Rumble, and Azumanga Daioh that people would just see as childish as most American cartoons nowadays. Then there's all the nudity/ oversized fake ass tits and features that would also turn people off from anime, due to the fact that a girl can't look that good in real life making it way too over the top. Then there's mindfuck anime like Lain & Evangelion that probably unless their a sci-fi fanatic will put people to sleep. Then there's slice of life anime which I doubt any sane person would be interested in at first, "A Dramatic Cartoon?", no offense but just saying that makes me laugh. It's not about which anime is considered great opposed too anime that is considered horrid, at first glance you'll probably know weather you'll like it or not. For a newcomer something like Haruhi is just as unattractive and childish as DBZ!vivaldiscool wrote:Because of DBZ.

And BTW doesn't anime mean "japanese animation" and cartoon mean "american animation" What makes them so different? They're both forms of animations/art, in one way or another, and are just getting produced by a different country. I honestly fail to see why people saying "dude, why is your like revolving around this, it just a cartoon." offends people when they HAVE gotten their point across. They're basically telling you that Your obsessing over some form of animation and need to obviously go outside and live a little
