WHOA. Look what happens when I go away for a week!
Quick note on the premier/no premier vids for Pro. The allowance is largely for two reasons:
1) Reality. We want people to participate. There are a LOT of contests out there and we really can't expect EVERYONE to make premier videos just for Pro. We're happy when people do, but we also know that y'all can't do your best work churning out a new vid every other month to participate in your local con, the big, high attendance cons, and then our Con. (Even if we did, it would just be bullying other cons contests.) We want as many people as possible to feel they can participate in the entry and the judging. (Before anyone brings it up, AFAIK, NO ONE has ever created a "made in 2-hours" vid just to participate in judging. So vids like that "clogging the contest" has never been a problem.) So, like with other contests, if you feel the vid you entered at "X" convention didn't get a fair shake (tech problems, wrong crowd, etc.) Pro is still an option. If you premiered it at your little local convention, and really want a chance to be on a big screen in front of a big audience, Pro is still available. And if you want to see how your "multi-award winner" stacks up against some of the hardest critics around, the other creators, then come along and send it in.
2) Size. Just as no one wants Pro to be a ginormous contest (hellooooooo Expo), no one wants a tiny one either (hello Masters). We need a good spread of entries, competition in all categories, etc. in order to make the contest interesting and exciting for everyon. We've been fine-tuning this system for (jeez) almost a dozen years now, and in spite of the occasional misstep towards huge or tiny, the "premier or not" rule gives us a contest at just about the right size. I hesitate to do anything more than slight tweaks on a system that seems to be working.
I do appreciate everyone's comments about liking the "puzzle" and "mystery" elements of the premiers. I like that myself (though I'm notoriously bad at picking out ANYONE'S style) and I like that everyone looks at it as motivation to create more new vids for the contest. At the same time, if half the entries were not premiers, that doesn't prevent the others from being mysteries (especially since the limit was raised to TWO videos this year... knowing that so-and-so entered one video doesn't exclude him from contributing the mystery #13 video, etc.). Besides, many of the videos premiered elsewhere still haven't been seen by many of the participants (like myself), so they're just as much a mystery.
Yeah, vids that aren't premiers can be easily "unblinded," but everyone's pretty much learned that they're just cheating themselves if they do hunt down the info.
Anyway, my long-winded explanation of Pro's workings aside......
Y'ALL GET TA' WORK! Only TEN DAYS LEFT! Let's make this a PRO CONTEST TO REMEMBER! (Yes, there's the standard couple days delay for the upload permissisons... etc. etc.)

Als Gregor Samsa eines Morgens aus unruhigen Träumen erwachte, fand er sich in seinem Bett zu einem ungeheueren Ungeziefer verwandelt.

Hellsh yesh. So many 00s and 01s in this thread. Good to see you guys again. Been too long. Why did you abandon me to run to the old editors' home?
By the way, Brad, I think it's my turn to spill a drink on you again...
In Japan, so I won't be attending. My first missed AWA ever. However, I will be sending entries to Pro and Expo.
