I would still wanna know, as a harsh (yet constructive) criticism goes further than a passive one. Especially since I only recently noticed a flaw with my video. There was a slight hiccup with the feathered cookie cutter during a fade which escaped the notice of even the AMA judges. While I'm certain it won't escape Otakon's prescreenings, I wish I could have a few minutes to fix my video and resubmit... :(

I can handle personal requests for your average prescreening score. However, given the impartial and honest nature of the prescreening process, quite a few of you probably don't want to know your scores ^^
Though I'd want to know my score, I'd probably be much more amused to read the comments people offered to go along with them. Can we get those too? :D

I concur!

And also, there are subcategories for the ratings, right? What are those specifically? I'd imagine that knowing those scores would go a long way towards actually learning what should be improved upon in the video... Though I'm forgetting where I actually heard that there were different categories...

God, I'm antsy to see if I got in. I don't think I did, but I can't help but get my hopes up.

There are no subcategories. It would be moronic to assume that one can accurately rank a video based on an average of technical aspects. Video quality and sound quality are expected to be 10's, otherwise it's obvious that somebody didn't pay for their source. Effects can't be ranked quantitatively because not every video needs a boatload of filters and masks to be good. With subcategories, it's totally possible for a video to rank perfect in every respect, and still suck, because while you can rank the use of well-timed lens flares, there's never a number that you can associate with a "bad idea" or something that was just plain uninteresting. There is no recipe for a perfect video. If you picked a bad song and it doesn't work with your footage, the best editors in the trade won't be able to save it. Editing has gotten so easy that computers can do it for you automatically, but the two things that the programs can't do are come up with a good idea, and tell a meaningful story. This is what separates the 1's from the 5's.

The videos are ranked no different than the star scale used on the .org now. It all boils down to "how much did you like it?". Each judge is left up to their own opinions as to what piques their fancy, and this is really the only way to accurately figure out which videos will fair the best with the crowd when all things are said and done.

I think I'd want my score to compare it (though I'm bracing for the worst), but considering how ermm...."special" a video needed to be for me to comment, I hope mines wasn't THAT..."special" for others.

Yeah, I would still want to know. I know my vid sucked. (The more I watch it, the more apparent it is. :?) So I'm curious to see how bad others thought it was, just for shits and giggles. :P (And so I have a solid number to make my bf feel worse about taking away 2 weeks of my editing time. :uhoh: )

I'll be honest in that your prediction is correct. I only wrote something if A) it was in the wrong category or B) it was REALLY bad and I wanted to say something useful. So yeah, if it was good, I rarely said anything except put the number "4" or "5" down.

Unfortunately, I rarely did this >_>.

I was going to make a snarky comment about how your discussion here is making me feel SO much better...

...but then I realized that I really shouldn't be getting my hopes up. So thanks! (and that's actually sincere, not sarcastic) 8-)

Okay, I'll bite. What did some of you think of mine? I wasn't able to see the prescreenings, so I'm not sure how anyone else did.
