Con Prep - Best mov to avi conversion?

Post by Liquid-fanfic » Fri Jul 18, 2008 6:00 pm

I made a AMV with Final Cut Pro during my last quarter in college and now I want to submit it for KumoriCon. I don't have access to the editing program anymore but I have it as a 893mg mov(codec: Apple Motion Jpeg A) file that I saved from the original FCP file.

For Kumori-Con, it needs to be encoded as either an avi or an mpg (with Xvid 4.0, DivX 5.05, and Microsoft MPEG 4 version 2, or earlier). I also have to get it down to 125mg at maximum (and a max bit rate of 2000 kB/sec) all according to the submission rules.

I've experimented on the school's macs with several encoding programs (mpeg streamclip, ffmpegX) but the compressed file size were too small, the quality even suffered when I moved it from mov to an uncompressed avi (the video was noticeably pixilated).

Now I'm on a windows machine, and I have no idea where to start, I need some advice on compression programs and settings, I don't know what to use. This is an Advent Children AMV (yes, another one, I'm sorry ^^;) so the color palette is different then a standard amv. My source was my dvd's VOBs converted to .mov, I left it in the original 23.89fps, size: 854x480

I've got to mail the AMV tomorrow or the next day in order to make it by the submission deadline so I'd REALLY appreciate it if you could help me out!
