D-Dubs and Koop beat me to it, but yeah- Flashy Video doesn't automatically equal 'Good'. Honestly, too flashy of a video (at least in the literal sense...) can make it a lot worse than it would have been otherwise, and a badly-done effects video can be torture on the eyes. If you like and enjoy making more 'traditional' story-driven videos, definitely keep doing it. Like DW, I remember your video as well from the pre-screening and enjoying it. Drama and Romance though were the largest categories by far though, so the most videos got cut from those categories including some good ones in both.

Congrats everyone! I'm sure it will be a great contest!
Neither was mine. Flashy != good video. In fact (and I'm not just saying this to make you feel better), yours was one of the higher ranked videos on my prescreening scores. I took a brief look at your profile and immediately remembered it (which is good).

...then again, I am an Angelic Layer fan and am biased >_>.
Ha ha thanks! The problem with my amv was that you needed to know the story of Angelic Layer to get it. So in a crowd with mixed anime viewing history it would turn out looking mediocre.

Wait... yer AL video got cut?

Don't make the same mistake in train-of-thought that I did -- sometimes, the best videos don't have lots of flashy effects.

Sorry to hear you didn't make the finals, but at least come out and catch the contest. It'll be fun.

Ok I didn't mean flashy as to OMG a seizure!!!! White White White!!!

I meant pretty. A tiny bit more heavily edited. Like the Princess Tutu "Hold Me Now" amv. Which was mostly cuts.

This flashy comment by no means saying Effect vids more better. Nor do I believe in that logic.

You submitted "undecided" so you didn't get moved, you got placed :)

We received 135 valid submissions. This list is only for those that were disqualified and for those that made the final cut. The 90 or so other videos that didn't score high enough aren't listed. I'd be here all day if I had to type them all. Your entry is in the overflow.
Davis 51 wrote:Y'know, I can deal with not making it in. But considering there were 6 trailers, and mine was one of them, but I'm seeing 6 trailers and mine is not one of them, that feeling is supplemented by confusion.
There were 6 people who submitted into the trailer category. There were 20-something videos that were submitted to the "undecided" category. Everything in "undecided" gets placed into a real category by the prescreening judges. There were more videos added to every category, which is why the original category breakdown is not accurate, and I said that they are subject to change.
alchemist4 wrote:You are allowed to vote at the pre-screening even if you entered the contest?
You are allowed to vote but you are not allowed to vote for your own video. Being there does not influence your chances of getting in. There were people at prescreenings that did not make the final cut, so the system is pretty fair.
Weatherman2111 wrote:Only 4 upbeat? Was there a lack of entries for that category, or did the contest run out of time since some of the other categories are huge.
There were a lack of entries to begin with, and what we got wasn't up to par with the rest of the categories. The additional videos in the drama and romance categories take the place of the "missing" two upbeat videos because they both scored significantly higher.

haha, no that's cool.

I wanted to always participate in one, but I always thought I wasn't allowed to if I entered. Maybe next year :)

VicBond007 wrote:As my predecesor has done, contest finalists will be able to sit in a special section for the contest screenings, and they do not have to wait in line for any AMV event. Finalists who wish to take advantage of these benefits will need to pick up a special AMV Finalist badge from the info desk at any time during the convention. This is not a substitute for your paid convention admission. When you pick up your badge, you will be given yours, as well as 2 badges that you can give to your friends. Each badge is pre-printed with your name so be sure to have some ID on you.
Is that seating only available to finalists? Alan said on the Otakon BBS that they would be available to anyone who submitted a video even if they don't make the finals. I hope that's still the case, I like to avoid lines whenever possible.

I didn't make it into the finals this year, a little disappointing since I was in the finals last year. But the competition is so tight here that even good videos get pushed out of the finals. Oh well, I'm already thinking of ideas for next year. Congrats to the finalists, I see lots of solid editors in the list. I can't wait to see them at the con.

Inquiry...

Jubjub2 - Major award winner: Anime Mid-Atlantic 2008

A quick reminder that "major award winner" only entails those videos that have won first place or "best in show" awards prior to the June 10th deadline.
But AMA this year was June 13-15, just a few days *after* the June 10 deadline.... did it win any other awards prior to June 10?
