Maybe next year something could be done where we have to submit two/thee preview images: one of the plain logo and the other one/two of a cropped mockup of the areas the logo will appear on the main site page and the forums with the logo inserted. Just provide the cropped file(s) for download as JPEGs or whatever. That way we'd still get the quick preview grid layout of all the logos when the voting starts, but if one wanted to check out a few of one's favorites before nominating them, one would get to see them in their natural environments, as it were. Then, in the final round, the logos could be put on informal mockups so we can see them as they would really appear on the site.Rider4Z wrote: that'd cause a lot more work for staff, but i think that is an excellent suggestion.
Maybe doing all this in the first round is overkill, but if nothing else it would probably force logo creators to be more realistic with their designs. They'd be able to see (one would hope) if a logo was completely oversized, undersized, off-color or overly detailed when they created their page-specific preview images. I test my logos against the site pages so I know they don't fail logistically, but I have a feeling a lot of other people don't (then again, I don't "do" Web design, so maybe they totally DO fail, hehe, I know one of them is pushing it).
Really? I thought I properly flattened all of the little buggers. Sorry. Or do you mean, the original logo file has transparency, because if that's the case then I'm definitely guilty. ^_^jasper-isis wrote:I could do some informal mockups for the final round, sure. Donno if we can automate it for the nominations round though. I think you (DriftRoot) were the only one who used a transparent background on your preview image.
Informal mockups would be absolutely fantastic for the final round. Wooo!!

But the main .org page isn't!jasper-isis wrote:But the forum background is white!Rider4Z wrote:no, there's a couple. i just tried a few out against the forum background.
I guess it's time to bring back my Haruhi avatar for a bit until the new logo is decided on.
(Maybe I'll get off my lazy ass and re-animate it like the 2006 version.)

true, but when i tried copying some over to photoshop (mostly the gifs) it screwed up the coloring and left really jaggedy edgesjasper-isis wrote:But the forum background is white!Rider4Z wrote:no, there's a couple. i just tried a few out against the forum background.
as for transparency, i know my preview is a jpeg, but the original is transparent as well

My opinions on final six:
3 pieces have so small side fonts, that they won't be noticeable on logo version at all (in fact, in one of these I just now noticed it's there)
1 I don't know what should even represent
1 is too usual for me to even notice it
and final one is weirdly positioned and I wonder if it'll fit the top of the page.
(not even bothering with colour schemes, heh)
Current logo wins all over the finalists for me, to be honest.
Well, I'll just vote one and hope it'll look good or something
