Need some help.
I need some sources which is in h264 mp4 format. When in my XP machine, I can just open it in VirtualDub by using Avs. But when I do the same way in Vista machine, the VirtualDub seems stop working and I have to close it.
So can anyone tell me that whats happening and what should I do to re-encode the h264 mp4 format files?
Thanks in advance.

.. VDmod was never intended to use MP4 files on its own; its design is too simple!
. if you want to turn it into a useful video format, try "Super"
The Virtual Dub series was intended to be a Simple single-line video editor with
the capability of using many filters for Sequence correction. The MOD series is
designed to help people with DVD ( .VOB ) Mpeg-2 ripped video splicing.
. if you are going to use VDmod as a Video Editor on MP4 video's, then you will
have to convert it to MPG or AVI first. ( Not Recommended, but it could be done. )
.. kindly read the Site Rules before proceeding with this venture of MP4 Editing.

He's not, he's also using avisynthpost-it wrote:.. VDmod was never intended to use MP4 files on its own; its design is too simple!
I believe he's using VDM just for the fact of converting it to editable avi, not using it as an editing program in and of itself. And with the .avs file, he is "converting" his mp4 to avi. >_>. if you are going to use VDmod as a Video Editor on MP4 video's, then you will

What are you using in your .avs script to try and open it in Vdub? You might be able to use a different plugin. The first two that come to mind are DirectShowSource() and ffmpegsource(). See if either will do the trick. (I imagine you're already using one of them, so try the other one just for kicks. I don't have Vista, so I can't test for you.)
... yea ...

... MP4 & MKv files are best decoded into Huffy codec's.
.. Very few editers can handle both formats;
. Avidemux is one and AviSynth is the other.
Both work quite well on their own however,
. there are a few people on this board
.. who wish to combine editers back to back.
... if you must use a container extracted file, then try .VOB
.... its simple, its practical and it can be played in any DVD Player.
