KMPlayer 2.9.x messed up my video playback. HELP!!!

Post by Bauzi » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:14 pm

Oh my.

I installed the KMP version 2.9.x with the new installer. Something went wrong. Whereever (without Premiere Pro and VDM. I guess they have a different kind of playback) I play any kind of video the contrast and brightness is way too high. It looks damn ugly!

So I deinstalled the KMP, but it´s still screwed up. I don´t know what I can do against it ;_;

I disabled some autostart services before I noticed it, but I changed them back like they where before. I don´t think that here lies the problem.

In the past I had a similiar problem, but it only appeared after changing users on my comp. I think it appeared after the installment of a new graphic card driver. This new driver is just 2 weeks old and didn´t caused any problem!

Help me please. It sucks -.-'

My bet is that KMPlayer changed some ffdshow configuration... try to check ffdshow's video decoder configuration and reset all parameters and try unable the selected filters, if there are any... if there's none, I guess it isn't ffdshow and I dunno how to help you...

I reinstalled CCCP and let it overwrite all settings.

I took my ffdshow and installed a newer version. Oh yeah now I don´t have makeAVIs wich I really need now =/

I reinstalled my graphic card driver.

ARGH

Try to play the file in a non-DirectShow player such as MPlayer. If it plays fine, your DirectShow environment is messed up, if it doesn't, the problem is most likely in the driver.

I was really not in a mood for playing around in a commandline programm to set it up for playing simple videos :?

Good. So I already took my VLC player and it didn´t worked here too.

Yes, dragging a video file on an executable was too much for me to ask. (Protip: command line programs really aren't that scary and usually don't require any more set-up than GUIs.)

Anyway, just don't spend any more time reinstalling codecs, it won't fix anything. Although I can't help you with your driver settings I can tell you that's almost definitely where to look for a fix. I have no idea how KMPlayer was able to mess that up, yet somehow I'm not completely surprised.

Hey I do often work with commandline progs as technical programmer, but I really don´t see the point of a commandline video player.

Of course the first thing that I did was drag & drop. Something was wrong with a config file. It played mp3s, but no videos at all. Not even simpel stuff like mpeg-1. When I come home from work as a programmer, I really don´t feel the need to work myself into this videoplayer.

Yeah. So much to MPlayer and now to the important stuff. I´ll try to search my hdd for an older version of the driver. When I´m lucky I won´t need to search the web for it.

Somebody in the KMPlayers suggested to try to change the video renderer. Do you see future in such an operation? Personaly I don´t see a point in it. In the best case I can just switch to something else that maybe works as good as the other video renderer. Mhmm...

Well, I assume both VLC and KMPlayer use the overlay mixer by default, which heavily relies on your video card. Switching to a different renderer (I recommend Haali's renderer, by the way) might improve the situation for your video player, but it won't fix the real problem.

*sigh*
I fixed it with the beta version of the previous driver release. I´ve nothing against betas, but I don´t really want one at such critic points of my system =/

Thx for helping! I´ll reinstall the new driver later and I´ll see if my problems are still solved.
