Best of the following programs?

Post by wayderz » Fri Aug 08, 2008 1:22 pm

I'm torn between a few programs;
Adobe Premiere,
Sony Vegas
and Final Cut Pro.

I am leaning towards Sony Vegas, or Adobe more but I don't wanna make a mistake in wasting 100$+ lol.

What I understand is Sony Vegas is a bit complicated and takes a lot more time, but the effects come out amazing, and Adobe is a little more simple, and still has good effects.

So my question is, which do you preferr the most, and if you could, tell me some of the features in them. Like, do any of these have a drag and drop option, for simpler effects(like in windows movie maker), stuff like that ^^

Thnx- Wayde

Oh, and what kind of visual effects do they have? Such as...

Black and white, or negitive, or can you edit entire movie chunks or spesyphic frames?

All of this that you want to do here you can do in WMM. Black and white, editing clips, and invert.

It's actually kinda vice versa of that really, adobe is usually considered more complicated, but has a very slight edge in editing ability. Vegas is simpler, (it's basicly drag and drop.) But has a more robust effects system. (if you include masking). Both are light years ahead of windows movie maker in terms of effects and editing abillty. B&W and negitive are both fairly basic effects. I believe adobe's alittle better at very pricise cuts 'cause it has a better scrubber, but they both can do it.

In the end they both preform equaly well. It's all about the person editing.

PS. I happen to use sony vegas.

PPS. I have no idea about FCP, from what I've heard it's basicly Adobe primire for the mac, but who listens to rumours.

Fix'd

Also, you can just download a trial for both and see which you like better before you buy one.

I also use Vegas, and I've tried out premiere. If you start out with premiere, then that's great for you, but if you go from Vegas to Premiere, it's more complicated with virtually the same effects. I hear FCP is actually better than both of them, but I'm not quite sure.

the level of difficulty depends usually on which one you pick up first. For instance if you picked up Vegas first you would find Premiere "backwards"... if you picked up Premiere first you might find Vegas backwards O.o.

Though the way the programs work seems to be the polar opposite they both get the job done either way..

My suggestion is to go to their sites and download the trials and figure out which one you like best.

and i must say Premiere was for me easier as Vegas. In premier there it is eaies to cut. by effects ok, the masks are eaier in vegas i think. But the rest are more or less the same.

as for "cutting" in premiere you use a tool (the razor tool) in Vegas you set the line where you want it and press "S" on the keyboard (for split).

Why do you cut there Jaddzia?
In Premiere you have a trimmer and an window for the cuts. its very easy. set an in point and one outpoint and put it with a button into the timeline.
