Are you enjoying the Olympics regardless of Politics?

Post by Sukunai » Sun Aug 10, 2008 9:18 am

Just curious if you are currently enjoying the Olympics regardless of how or what the Chinese likely did in order to produce the event.

Or regardless of what they are doing in Tibet.

Or regardless of what they are doing in general.

I thought the opening show was great.

I just wish I had a better grip on what event(s) was on which station, and when. I'm kinda just guessing with the large block of events they block for hour-long segments on each of the participating channels in my area.

Also, I'm kicking myself for not going to get a cable box for my HDTV so i can spend some time outside of my room, watching this on the big screen. =/

Politics certainly adds a flavor to some of the games. Currently watching USA-China in basketball and Russia-Georgia in beachvolley should be interesting too.

Yeah ... that's not funny. : /
Canada won the first match of the games (womens sccer) so it should be fun to see how we stack up against the rest of the world. Even though most of our competitors are immigrants from other countries ...

You act like China's some sort of monster for raising people out of poverty forcefully. Are human rights, heritage, etc. that important when you have over a billion people in poverty? Tibet? Taiwan? Old politics, why don't people just accept One China. I'll take my PRC over a democratic India any day.

Actually, to be honest, I have no clue what China did in order to produce the event. :O *goes and googles*

Hmm... So there's a huge violation of human rights.. Housing demolition, arrests by the truckload...

Uhh... Well, it does sound bad, and the rightous part of me want to go and do some protesting, but I'm not sure completely. Orwell made some good points, and I tend to be for the wellbeing of the people, even if they don't see it as wellbeing.

As for the events, My favorites are the Swimming and Track. Luv em. :)

The only thing interesting about the olympics is the politics around it. I certainly won't be entertained by watching some dumb cunts running around in a circle repeatedly. If that type of thing thrilled me I'd just go to the park and watch a woman tried to run faster with her skirt up than the rapist runs with his pants down. At least that has the bonus of I get also get to watch a porno victory celebration.

The Olympics are like a JRPG. Everyone has an extensive backstory, and you will be subject to it.

WTF, I am. Is that wrong these days to be slightly more than cynical?

I am only somewhat disturbed by the olympics on the news virtually blocking out the much more important world event at the moment.

I am also honestly tired of a) the Tibet junkies; b) the people keen on viewing all societies through their own lens. Unfortunately good, valid causes are now full of ineffectual, poorly-informed flag-waving hippies, provocateurs, and armchair democracy activists who've little sense of the world outside their safety box.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
