This is way over the top, but it reminds me of something Gavin de Becker wrote in his book "The Gift of Fear" (which is an amazing and vital book and everybody should rush out and get it right away).

Anyway, the thing he said that's always stuck with me is

"At their core, men are afraid women will laugh at them. At their core, women are afraid men will kill them."
