Post by pinky75910 » Wed Aug 20, 2008 6:25 pm

Finally got WMM 2.6 on my new Vista comp to recognize avi files, imported them, and made a simple test video. Thought my troubles were over. Then I tried using effects, and I get -

Went through many troubleshooting, and finally they suggest a complete System Restore.

what codec is your avi footage encoded with?

If that's not the problem, then it just might be WMM being emo (From past experience, WMM's performance only goes downhill until it stops working altogether)

...that's not a codec.

gspot will tell you what codec a file was encoded with (just drag and drop the file into the program window)

your problem is most likely divx (it still could be WMM being sucky and vista being suckier...but the divx thing is definitely the majority of your problem)

the solution is to re-encode your clips with huffyuv (since WMM and lagarith don't play nicely) using vdubmod

Hmm, what would happen if I uninstalled Divx?

you wouldn't be able to play your divx stuff then (it would give you either a black screen or a 'missing codec' error most likely)

Hmm, but I wasn't able to import my file til I dl'd VLC Media Player.

Well, wait, how can it be a codec problem? It's the effects freaking out whether there's something imported or not.
