Azumanga Daoih.
The show is hilarious, the characters are well-conceived and real, in their odd little ways. It makes me laugh my ass off with its wonderful weirdness and can move me to tears at times with its sweetness (while never being twee). The art style is clean, with random sojourns into surrealism. All in all, a great little commentary on life and all its wonders and weirdness. And it has it all: Action! Car chases! Drama! Romance! Adventure! Suspense! Horror! (which is maybe why it was so popular to use in amv's for a while---you can make whatever scenario you want with the thing).
That, and I love, love, LOVE Osaka. Just looking at her makes me happy. In fact, I love Osaka this much:

Fruits Basket
Why? Because to me, it's a lovely escape into a world of optimism. The world in this Anime is truely a beautiful one. While sorrow and hate fill it, there's always one girl that can bring light into it and fix everything, just by being herself and showing the most kindness that I've ever seen. To me, it has the best anime characters known the man, and breaks the usual anime sterotypes (although some are prevailant). While the anime was tragically shorter than the manga (and not as good in my opinion), it still represents the manga well, with only a few changes notable. To me, it's a series that everybody should watch, for the good meanings and undertones within it.
