And my replies (considering that I made the video for Otakon's AMV contest and sent it in for Pro):TaranT wrote:Now that it's over...
My notes from viewing the Pro discs, edited for readability.
Most of these are "first impressions" (quick comments) without a lot of thought put into them.
64 - Earth's Last Hope - Dragonball Z / Hoobastank
Action. Dragonball (-_-). Competently edited; not well enough to stand out in this crowd. Wrong lip sync. Motion work not dramatic enough.
"Action - Dragonball (Z). (-_-)." So what if you have that face on you? Considering that I used to HATE DBZ with a passion, I figured I'd be the last person to make a DBZ action video.
"Competently edited; not well enough to stand out in this crowd." On the one hand, at least you don't say "It SUCKED!"; on the other hand, considering that hardly anybody uses "old school" anime series in AMVs anymore, I think I did good standing out from the other videos. I likened this comment to Kellogg's Corn Flakes ("Taste them again for the first time") -- it's good, but not outright awesome, but still, good.
Also, I get that AWA Pro is a peer-judged contest; and yet, so was Otakon's pre-screenings, and I made finals by some miracle. Go fig.
"Wrong lip sync." I assume you mean That Moment (when Vegeta crushes the scouter). Then you didn't get the joke. That, or at least you just don't pay attention to Internet memes at all.)
"Motion work not dramatic enough." Well, I wasn't going for a drama video, was I.
Again, not everybody is going to like my video, but dammit, I think I did well with it, and I'm not ashamed of its performance at other conventions (or here, for that matter).
