only encode the small clips that you need with lagarith instead of entire episodes/disks

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

huffyuv makes large files, so planning more and making clips is a good thing to do if you have limited space.

A few options.

1) If you aren't already, make clips in Vdub and don't transcode entire episodes at once.

2) Bypass lossless compression entirely and use VFAPI to create fake .avi's. (Guide)
Be aware that this option will be more system intensive, so playback may suffer a bit while you're editing if your computer isn't up to snuff, especially if you have very many filters in your script.
... yea ...

you aren't storing the .vob files?
they take up space, but much less than a lagarith encode of an episode. You then make a script to open your d2v file and use that to make clips.

externals work just fine, but you may run into problems with the d2v files if your drive name changes (in which case you either edit the d2v file or re-index your vobs)

Or you could Rip the video and audio from the DVDs you get from netflix and then burn them to blank discs. It's much cheaper, although I have done that with a couple things I still buy anime because I like it :3... but yah, you can just rip and burn...or buy a bigger hard drive as suggested before.

so your saying that i should keep all the d2v files from the episodes and vdubmod it. for just the clips i need? but would the d2v files take up space too or no?

the vobs take up the most space...d2v files are only a few KB each
you have to have to vob files for the d2v files to actually do anything
