A really good convertor?

Hi everyone. My problem with editing is that I have downloaded (cannot buy anime in México just for you know) videos with unstable codecs, like wmv, divx and Xvid. so I am trying to convert this videos. So which would be a good convertor for these codecs? Also try to post converters that don't make the video and audio quality baaaaaaaad. Also I have .mkv videos, so if you would post a converter that could convert them as well that would be great.
