OK. Can you play the file? And if so what does the player think it is playing?

For example: Open the file in VLC, then get the file's information (Window->Information), then click on the advanced tab.

Addendum: Don't use downloaded footage for editing, it is against the forum rules.

*facepalm* okay, just go to your file, right click on it and go to properties, the click the "summary" tab and see what's under "video compression". That's there is to it really, no need for Gspot just to find out the codec.

Aside from that, I'm sure most people have already guessed what it probably is. If it's Xvid or DivX, then you'll need to change it to an editing codec like lagirith or huffYUV. In order to open you file up in VDM, you'll need to open it up with a avisynth script like this:

directshowsource("D:\BK Jacoby\AMV\kh-ff\012-Cloud's Tale.avi")

Could you possibly elaborate a little? What didn't work? Was it:
  • A player would not play it
  • Right click, properties, gave you an error
  • The change to an editing codec failed
  • The avs script gave an error
  • You just tried to open the file again without doing anything else
  • Something else???
You're not making it easy for us to help you here.

it is a DivX/Xvid Codec problem, i've been having a lot of trouble with it. How do i open it with the avisynth scropt inside of VDM?
