I use premiere, is this the way to get the best quality??

Post by Chemikilla » Tue Oct 28, 2008 6:37 pm

Alright I've been reading on these forums for about a week and I just want to make sure I've got all the converting/encoding stuff right. I rip the dvd, run it through dgindex and cut out the part I want, write and AVS script with the .d2v file, use that to edit with in premiere and then use a frameserver to move my project over to virtualdubmod for final conversion. If there is anything I can do that would get me better quality please post.

That's it in a very flimsy paper-thin nutshell.

...I don't understand any of that, and yet I wish I did... I got Premiere and it's awesome, but someone told me to do some fixing up in VirtualDubMod, and I can't figure out how to do that.

the best quality is the best "ripping" possible.
1) if you rip the DVD at 29.95 fps and it is in FILM mode ( 23.94 fps ) your screwed!
2) if you rip the DVD at 23.94 fps and its not FILM mode ( 24.96 fps ) your screwed!
the problem that causes 99.996% of the damage, in making an AMV, is the interlacing.

improper de-interlacing robs you of "fine lines and details". Warp-to-sharp sucks.

is this picture properly de-interlced?

.. no!

the cats would have better detail on their faces if it were de-interlaced properly.
Now, all it looks like is being out-of-focus! Proper ripping could have prevented this error.

---------------------

improper encoding to MP4 causes just as many problems as bad DVD ripping.

. the guides are there to help you discover solutions that they have found and to
try and help you "not" make the mistakes that will make your AMV look like it
belongs on u tu be!
