Where will AMVs be in 5 years?

Post by Zarxrax » Thu Oct 30, 2008 2:06 pm

I got a good chuckle out of this thread over at Doom9 today, where 5 years ago, people made predictions about what the state of video and codecs would look like in 5 years time. Well, 5 years passed, and a ton of predictions were right on the mark, and a lot of them were quite a ways off. Either way, it's fun to look back on things. But where did all the time go? LOL, it seems like only yesterday... http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=61464

So let's try applying this to AMVs. What do you think the AMV community will be like 5 years from now?

Here's a few predictions of my own:

- The org will still look roughly the same, and people will start getting really fed up by it, since most other sites will be all web 3.0 and stuff.

- Releasing AMVs in 720p or 1080p will be the standard. Hardly anyone will still use DVD source footage.

- YuuTube will be serving HD footage by default. Fewer people will upload videos on the org, as most opt for YuuTube instead. The ones left here will be the "good" editors ;p

- The YuuTube word filter will be gone.

- The upload size limit will be increased from 100mb.

- A new editing program will become popular, challenging Premiere and Vegas.

- Another video will come along that blows everyone away, and takes top spot on the top 10% for ages. Lots of people will complain about how much the video actually sucks.

- The org will get another takedown notice, but the site and hosting will stay available.

- A retired editor who was popular back in the day will make an impressive comeback.

- The announcement forum will experience a video surge on December 20th, 2012, due to people thinking that the world will end on the 21st because of those half-baked Maya calendar theories.

- The video info readouts for the earliest videos on Local (why can't remember the other server's name?) still won't be fixed.

This:

Kind of contradicts this:

Since Euphoria is the only video with over 1000 ops, and people leave fewer and fewer ops these days.

-Another record label will come around and ban the uploading of their music (like another Evenescence foh-pah).
-The first ban on uploading local videos with a certain anime will be enforced.
-The VCA results will still (for the most part) suck.
