Having an issue trying to get started.

Post by gecko_love » Wed Nov 19, 2008 10:41 pm

Hi all, name is Amanda. I am new to the site and trying to get started in the world of AMVs. I am not sure if this is the correct forum for my issue, but I think it was AviSynth related. If I am in the wrong place, just point me to the right one.

So what I did to get started was download the goody package (amvapp) found in the "A&E's guide to all things audio and video mk2". Everything seemed to download with no issues but when I tried to test the software I got a bunch of little pop-up windows that said this...

Mplayer2.exe - Entry point not found

The procedure entry point RunDIIW could not be located
in the dynamic link library msdxm.ocx

(Sorry, I couldn't get a screen cap)

Basically for every test the application tried to run, I got that window and nothing tested at all. Again I am not sure where this fits into as I am not very affluent with computers. I didn't try to do anything after that and just left off there. Thanks!

I did my usual google search and only gave me hits for Windows Media Player so what I would do in your shoes is as follows:

First I suggest downloading and Installing the new AMV App since it's a few years newer.

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... mvapp.html

You should uninstall the old AMV app just to be safe and try again. If the tests fail again, you can still test to see if the app works right. Just make a quick AVI Synth script as described in the guides and see if It works.

the amvapp3 tests are know to fail (with that error) on vista
you can ignore it, as everything should still work (except the test)

I uploaded the newer version of the amvapp which went without a hitch, and again when I tried to test I got the exact same story. So mayhaps this is just something up with my computer then? Where can I go on from here? Thanks again for the help.

Are you using Vista? If you are, then the tests will fail. Period. But it doesn't matter. The programs should still work.
... yea ...

Just start using the stuff. As said by Kairudo and LivingFlame, if you have Vista the tests will not work.

:D
Maybe some one should add a little note to the Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> guide :|
When Philip of Macedon threatened the Spartans with, "If I enter Laconia, I will raze Sparta to the ground," the Spartans' reply was, "If."
