Depends on what video I'm making.
I can make a full in 2 hours. But it won't turn out as good as the videos I spend a longer time on.

My most recent project(done, but not released) Took me around 2 months to complete and is also by far my personal favorite of my own videos.
But most of my videos that I have released the past year have been made in 1 day, between 2 - 10 hours.
So yeah, it differs depending on what kind of project I'm working on.

The shortest took me a couple of weeks. The longest took me just under three months.

So far . . .

It's not like anyone could give you a proper answer.

An AMV takes so much time till it's finished.

Depends on the length of the video. AMV Hell-type shorts usually take me about an evening or two. And that includes getting the footage, editing it, and exporting/converting it.

Full-length stuff takes varying times. I've managed to bang some out in one-two weeks, others took about a month, and others took several months. It all depends on how frustrated I start getting with the editing process, motivation+ideas, and how much life seems to get in the way. Lately even simple videos take me months to complete just because I want to kill my computer (the resource issues of which also prevent me from getting really into learning to do a lot more with AFX so that I can actually do some effectsy work).

Case in point: the video I'm working on at the moment I started back in February. It stewed around on my comp with only about 45 seconds done until August, when I was able to finish it up. I haven't done anything with it since early September and it's still technically in beta. And this only has straight cuts and fades (and some hidden Photoshopping). The video I did before that (Bittersweet Sentimentalities) took maybe a week or two, ...Whatever... took maybe three weeks after sitting around for a few months, and Fate Against Will took two-three weeks and then sat around for a couple of months before being beta'ed and revised in June of last year and released in early July. And the only full-length video I did in 2006 (In Search Of Meaning) took about ten months of off-and-on work, although in actuality four months of that was taken up editing the core portion of it for Project Trinity.

that depends on the Editor itself:

AiST .. 2 hours at the most from start tot DVD+RW

Avid .. 3 hours from start to .VOB on DVD-RW.

Magix .. 3 hours tops from start to .VOB on DVD+RW.    :|

Vegas .. 4 hours minimum from start to Huffy codec.

AVS .. 6 hours max from start to .FLV   :nono: :nono: :nono:

Primiere .. 1 month for the sound to sync-up correctly. :P

.. Editors are not compression specialist's, Virtual Dub and MediaCoder
are designed for many formats of compression; Super and Zarx get

How long it takes depends on what you are doing, how good you are at doing it and how often you experiment. For instance, you can be good at rotoscoping but still spend dozens of hours on that one task, simply because by its very nature it takes a long time to do (well).

This does not mean people will stop getting on my case for being a slow editor, however, so apparently there IS some kind of stereotypical "normal" time frame for AMVs floating around. :book: :P

Rather than ask how long it takes, I'd be much more interested in asking how other people improve their workflow, how they DO manage to make (good) AMVs within a reasonable amount of time (whatever the heck that is).
