Huffy's F***'d up. Can't Load, Can't Open in Windows

Post by Tryptic » Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:11 pm

I'm using AVS for the first time, so I don't know if it might be my script, but I exported some clips as HuffyUV encoded .avi's so I could load them up in Premiere.
They load fine, and I can edit them on the timeline, and preview them. But if I try to double-click (to open the trim window or whatever it's called) Premiere has a hissy-fit and shuts down.
Likewise, when I try to open the folder in Windows, the entire Windows explorer shuts down. It says something about not having something to decode it. I deleted the files, and managed to reencode with Logarith, so I've got a backup, but I really like Huffy, and I REALLY like to know why something breaks on my computer, so if anyone knows what happened, I'd appreciate them telling me.

I'm running HuffyUV ver 2.1.1 with default settings.
And here's my AVS script, just in case I did something on my end...
mpeg2source("F:\COWBOY_BEBOP\VIDEO_TS\Bebop.d2v",cpu=4,upconv=true)
LanczosResize(848,480)
AssumeFPS(24,sync_audio=true).SSRC(48000,fast=false)
tweak(sat=1.3)
#tweak(cont=.91)
ConvertToRGB24()

It's possible that one of your huffyuv files was corrupted.

This sometimes happens with HuffYUV, and thumbnail loading. In explorer, go into Tools->Folder options, and on the View tab, check the 'Do not cache thumbnails' option. You also might want to enable ffdshow to play HuffYUV. You can do that by going into the ffdshow's video decoder and VFW configuration dialogs, and making sure that under Decoders, that HuffYUV is set to libavcodec. If one of the programs (like Premiere) you're using throws up a warning message about using ffdshow, then just say OK after selecting 'always' or 'just this once'.

You'll want to make sure it's a recent version of ffdshow:

I generally use clsid's generic builds.

Hmm... thanks. I tried reinstalling the Huffy codec, which didn't work, so I tried rolling to back to 1.3, which ALSO didn't work, so I'm just going to live with it for the short term. I don't really understand ffdshow, so I think that's just going to be the one thing too many. I plan to learn that for my next video (well, probably next-next. Next time I'll be learning about NTSC footage.)

Anyway, Premiere also won't let me export movies as DivX footage, so I think it may just be my codecs are messed up. When I finish this video, I'll try reinstalling the AMVapp and all my codecs. But I don't want to play around too much and risk screwing up my project.

Again, thanks for the help.
