What do all of you think of the new generation of anime?
As in the effects, storylines
This is what I think
EFFECTS:
The effects used in the most recent animes such as
Hellsing (ultimate)
Air
Ef
Elfen Lied < 2004 I know just thought of it
Karas
I think that it is good that they are putting CG and other computer elements in animes but I just hope it doesn’t over run the anime.
(Story) When I was watching the Hellsing TV series (which was made in 2001) and then watching the Hellsing ultimate series it was a BIG impacted seeing all the CG and other stuff.
STORYLINES:
With the new animes that are coming out this year and next year and so on, Do you think that the storylines and plot will be fresh or new? . Because there are a lot of animes out there and all the good ones are used up. Do you think they will run out of ideas and storylines?. I mean look at all the Mecha once you have seen 1 you have basically seen them all.
So What do you think of the new generation of anime

Any way, to answer your question, anime at the moment seems to be (this is entirely debatable) in a sort of slump. Production companies are suffering from lowered profits, resulting to creating cheaper anime that panders more strongly towards the otaku audience.
As a result of lowered production costs, many areas of anime itself have taken a blow. Much of the series we see coming out all seem to be rehashes of one another, and for good reason. Any time an anime tries to deal with a different subject matter, no matter how well it's pulled off, it gets a far smaller amount of attention than say, shiny anime with lots of service. An example of this would be Baccano (pic related below)
My theory is that the quality of anime produced will continue to lower itself (not saying there won't be any good ones, just saying there will be less than we have previously seen) until 3D becomes more fluent and polished. Shows such as Clannad (pic related below) have already demonstrated just how well 3D can be pulled off when done well, and to be honest even I'd have to say it looks just as good, and also manages to retain the 2D look while being not only easier to reproduce, but also has no drawbacks in terms of how many frames need to be drawn.
In effect, once 3D becomes more mainstream I think we will once again see a higher standard of anime coming out of Japan, and 2D will more than likely die off and fade into the background as anime enters a new era of animation.
As for the story, hell to be entirely honest, as many topics as anime covers, it's far from everything. Sure, there will always be shows that seem to stem from other shows (keep in mind this doesn't only apply to anime) but for the most part there will always be new stories to tell, and new characters to meet.

Re: New Generation Of Anime
I prefer anime to be drawn more so. I acknowledge that sometimes CG has done some amazing things for anime. It's the same as CG in film, used well no problem, used like a club the film suffers.
The recent situation with dvd sales in North America hasn't been looking to good. I have no idea of what that will do to long term anime fortunes.
As for story lines and plots, well it's well known that there are really only so many plots possible anime or otherwise. But just as with comedy, it's often not the joke, but the delivery. Some anime's have been really good even while just being really more of the same when you look closely.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Re: New Generation Of Anime
I don't care much about plot being original. People complain about originality but they probably should have stopped watching anime the moment it hit airwaves in here or Japan. They're based off manga/other things based off something else. Yeesh.
Nothing's original or sacred anymore.
Effects wise, I'm loving it. Using computers to color now and CG to fill in excessively complicated mechanics [mecha anime has tons of this, watch Macross Frontier or anything by Gonzo ^_^] Without CG, I think some series might just look too weird to animate. [If Miroku's black-hole palm curse were drawn by hand, what would you think?]
We need less censorship for-dvd-sales things. /points finger at Rosario to Vampire II
H-games turning anime is starting to become more apparent. I'd LOVE to see a Tears to Tiara anime... with hentai oav ala School Days ^_^

Re: New Generation Of Anime
I'm pretty sure that's either never gonna happen, or it'll take forever and then some for 2D to disappear. It's generally agreed in the Japanese industry that 2D characters are their area of expertise, and what separates them from the western industries. It's been achievable for a long time now to transition to 3D and retain the anime style, but it's such a completely different way of working that they don't see the reason to bother. It's also ridiculously cheaper to hire people who can draw characters than it is to hire a team to model, toon shade, rig, and animate 3D characters.Pas wrote:In effect, once 3D becomes more mainstream I think we will once again see a higher standard of anime coming out of Japan, and 2D will more than likely die off and fade into the background as anime enters a new era of animation.

Re: New Generation Of Anime
original has no relation to being first, it just means how fresh it is. My old scenario, if Shaquile O'neal (it should be updated though...) was to shoot a 3-pointer when he makes his career by owning the post does that make him original? No, it may be the first 3 pointer of his career, but it's not original it's stupid. Original is just something that happens infrequently but ppl like.

Re: New Generation Of Anime
I could see more anime movies becoming 3D... I can't see regular anime series becoming 3D... 2D has its own benefits and I doubt an anime company will spend that much money on a series (money involved in CGI modeling).
I'm happy enough to see a trend in HD anime. Looks like HD is the future.
Effects are just effects. I'm more interested in storylines for animes. I havent seen an original one in quite some time. Don't get me wrong though, good effects can really make the viewing experience of an anime alot better.
