A1. Al would be the sidekick, considering he's the younger brother. But not just any sidekick, but one of those that always saves the situation and the hero, with the hero being totally oblivious of it and ending up taking all the credit.

A2. Ed's ability is to look shorter than he actually is, and Al's ability is intimidation and politeness.
