Imogen Heap distances herself from YT takedowns

In her latest video blog, Imogen publicly distanced herself from a recent series of takedowns issued on her behalf.

She was very upset to learn about the takedowns, because she feels that such videos provide great promotional material for her songs, and she has put a stop to it. [personal note: it was an AMV that introduced her to me, and I now own a copy of everything she has produced]

She has also said that if anyone has received a takedown for one of her songs they are to write to her and she will give her permission for the song to be used.

Considering that I plan on making a couple of AMVs with Imogen Heap songs, that's kinda nifty. And since I found out about her though AMVs as well...good call with the promotion view of things.

No idea how they feel (she didn't say in her blog) but according to the discography section on her website, she is with several labels (by geography), including: Sony, RCA, and Universal. Her page on Wikipedia seems to indicate that her deal with White Rabbit / Sony allows her to retain sole control.

Perhaps the feelings of her label simply don't matter in this case? I can't see her being able to state publicly that she had "put a stop to" the takedowns, and providing an email address to use when you want to ask for permission, if she didn't have have enough control to do it.

Why not? I can publicly state that I own the apartment i'm renting. Doesn't mean it's my decision to make or that the people that really own it aren't going to do something about it.

It's certainly a PR disaster if the labels say anything about it publicly though.

Now be honest: How many videos are out there with 30+ comments where no one asks about the name of the used song? Labels should realize the potential.
