How many people who hate DBZ have actually seen it uncut?
First of all, please realize that I am not a huge DBZ fan, there are a lot of anime I like better than DBZ, but I do enjoy watching DBZ uncut. (though edited is alright it just doesn't live up to the uncut version, once you've seen it).
Anyways to my point. How many of you who always complain about how stupid and mindless, ridiculous, and lousy DBZ is have actually watched more than a few episodes, and episodes which were unedited.
I just feel that many of the people who trash DBZ have never seen the unedited versions (though I'm sure many fans haven't seen these either), and if you haven't seen the unedited versions your missing out on a lot of the humour and some of the violence which trully add to the show.
If you did watch the unedited versions you would realize that for one, DBZ doesn't take itself super-seriously and makes fun of some of the techniques used by the fighters and occaisonally the length of time it takes for a fight to occur (the Bu saga for instance). By the way this applies to super-serious DBZ fans that can not take any comments on the occaisonal ridiculousness of the show (but you should realize that this in part is what makes the show so good). <it is kinda lengthy though, and I don't know if I'll ever see all of the episodes (not to mention Dragon Ball and GT), but one can only hope.

there is still too much grunting and powering up in it.

Everyone here has seen it uncut... And I hope you're not refering to the crapy "uncut" versions funi releases, because those aren't really errr... uncut. I personally only watch the jap version. 10x better (except for the fact that they use female voice acters for male characters, yeesh)LittleKefalos wrote:First of all, please realize that I am not a huge DBZ fan, there are a lot of anime I like better than DBZ, but I do enjoy watching DBZ uncut. Yes granted, "there is still too much grunting and powering up in it," but this is in part what makes it funny. Powering up for five episodes or more is amazing, to have a TV show, even one that is animated (or maybe especially one that is animated), do that is ballzy. What other show could expect to pull off such a stunt (how do kids watch it, how do they stay interested? They do, that takes talent, real work. There's a method to the madness, and the length of time it takes to power up).
Also, I'm not talking about the crappy uncut, no. But you say everyone has seen it. I doubt this, and even if everyone has "seen it," who has seen every episode. I myself have seen only about a third of the episodes and only about one fifth to one fourth uncut. So I still have a long way to go. I missed pretty much all of the cell saga (so that explains which part I mainly missed).
Anyways, DBZ is so big it's back far far on my list of things to buy. The next things I want to get are things like FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Eva, Ah! My Goddess, Love Hina, (maybe Kenshin, good but long), Sailor Moon (uncut, and yes this is long too), I dunno know maybe X. I want releases of all the Studio Ghibli Films too (Disney better start working on them). And I'm sure other things are bound to come up, like for instance I can't wait for the new Tenchi OAV's and at the same time my sister's slowly buying Ranma (which is also terrific)<--and I actually recommend to older DBZ fans (it's not DBZ though, but its better in so many ways, trust me). DBZ fans might not like Tenchi though, oh well, I'm just blabbering now, but it is my column....
Oh well that was a bit of a tangent. Sorry.

I have seen uncut DBZ on the international channel, there was a bunch more blood, but still the same DBZ flaws.

I've seen it uncut but no matter how uncut it is, it still is a bad anime. Granted its not the worse anime out there but still is a plotless flop of an anime. Dragonball wasn't that bad because at least it had a story line that wasn't predictable. In Dragonball GT they tried to go back to the original formula but just couldn't stick with it.

I have seen a lot of it uncut (as in subtitled uncut), since it was one of the first animes I ever got into. I wouldn't necessarily say I hate it, but I've just discovered a lot better anime since then.
I still watch it occasionally, if only to point and laugh. Although I still have a subbed tape of the Trunks and Bardock specials. As stupid as 90% of the series was, those two mini-movies were actually pretty good. I still drag them out occasionally.
Heck, as much as Trunks is my favorite character in the whole freaking series (badass without the idiotic ego factor; though I'll say that's what makes Vegeta my second favorite. Boy is he screwed upstairs), it's still fun watching Androids 17 and 18 play soccer with his head.
