Media Player Classic. Can't Switch Subs Off?

Post by Dizmo » Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:13 am

I got a problem can someone please help me?

I use to be able to switch the subs off but now the subtitle option when I right click and scroll down is blacked out so I can't switch it on and off like I use to before.

I recently uninstalled some codecs because my video skept randomly slowly down during play, even when I watch online videos on streaming sites.

After I uninstalled it, I can't disable subtitles anymore. Can someone help me? I just reinstalled K lite package. What do I need to install exactly that'll fix this problem? Just that one or two specific thing that'll fix it, not a whole nother package.

I've also uninstalled amv app and have not reinstalled it, I just want to install the one that'll help the subtitle issue.

Well, first off, check to make sure that the file's subs CAN be turned off and aren't burned into the video. If they are soft subs, then while the video is playing, look in your system tray (next to the clock, you may have to click the arrow to show all of the icons down there) for an icon that looks like a green arrow. That could indicate it's using an external renderer (like VSFilter or DirectVobSub) for the soft subtitles, and you should be able to change/disable the subs by right-clicking that icon.

Since you are using media player classic, if the subtitles are softsubs, then all you have to do to disable them is right click on the video while it's playing (or paused for that matter, heh :P ) and then going to navigate > subtitle language > No Subtitles.
If however, the subtitles are hardsubs, you can't really do anything to turn 'em off.

On a side note: uninstall k-lite and install CCCP instead. :nono:

Yeah, I was able to turn it off before, before I uninstalled the codecs and amvapp.
I'm playing an mkv video file that has dual audio.

I don't know what system tray you're talking about or how to get there. I'm using media player classic.

What is wrong with k lite codec over cccp? Why's cccp better?
Before on media player classic, I could right click and scroll down and the subtitle part will give me the option of turning off or on, now it doesn't. Playing the same video too, the one that I could turn the subtitles off before.

Just tried to do what you said, can't turn it off and everything in navigate is grayed out so I can't do anything. And yes I'm very sure I could turn the subs off, I did so before.

K-lite has conflicting codecs and possibly spyware and other crap if you downloaded it from some random site.
CCCP is spyware free and it has only the necessary codecs, with all the settings ready for the playback. Just install it without changing anything (install only Media Player Classic Homecinema as player, don't install Zoom Player, that's about it).
Also, the system tray is that thing where there is the clock in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to link cccp: http://cccp-project.net/
PS: remember to uninstal k-lite BEFORE installing cccp.

I did that (uninstalled klite and installed cccp) but I still can't do the subtitle thing and I'm 100% sure I could before.

Also, what is weird is that use to only happen to VLC player but not media player classic but now also happens to media player classic is when I open and first start playing any video file, the screen looks darkish. I have to right click on the desktop and go to NVKeystone and enable and the screen flashes and the video plays back in normal color and not the dull out dark color.

So when I first play video, video is dark in color and contrast, then I go to NVKeystone and enable it and screen flashes and video goes back to regular brightness.

I also don't see the Media Player Classic Cinema player thing. My media player classic is in same spot.

Continuing from post above this one...

I just opened Media Player Class Cinema, same issue.
At least with k lite, when I play, video stays bright and I don't have to enable nvkeystone to get screen to brighten up. Even though the subtitle issue remains.
