It depends. Like I have a friend who is into anime as much, if not more, as me and that makes it not so lonely. However since we live in a small town their are no other anime fans that I know of around.

I know if she wasn't a fan too then it wouldn't be as much fun.
I think, therefore I am.

What the hell do you mean, "singled out"? Dude you are not alone, there are millions of us.

yeah but some people don't want everyone not into anime to form opinions about them because they like anime.

I have a friend like that too, she refuses to allow me to even use the word anime in public. The local anime store must be the movie store. She always worries about what people think.

I personally don't care for closet fans, though where I live the anime fans tend to be really open.

Mean at school or something like that, where i live its all the hip-hop scene so its like everyone thinks they are ghetto and anime isnt =| yeah gay but thats how ppl around where i live, and im sure its like that in many other places. And if where someone lives isnt like that im sure theres something else replacing it. But i swear theres no store that sells anything anime related for like 40 miles besides the bestbuy near me. Gotta be honest, anime is location location location

Well many places in Canada are very accepting and open. I've never been shunned from society for my hobbies and I've lived in 3 different Provinces (British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario) BC is especially accepting of anime, after all the closest country to Victoria (other than the US or Mexico) is Japan, just across the Pacific.

I don't really think so. I spend most of my time thinking of anime and AMVs but I have people to talk to about many other things, so I get through the day just fine. Most of my friends may be surprised if they saw how much of my shelf my hobby has taken up, I barely mention anime to many people.

In short, I'm going to say I agree with the person that said it's only lonely if you want it to be.

Yeah there's more than 10 million fans of Anime in the world... considering Anime is centralized in Asia we can say with certainty there is at least 100 million if not upwards of 200-300 million Anime/Manga fans and that number will continue to grow as western and eastern society becomes more comfortable with the concept of drawn motion picture (which is obviously happening with the acceptance and adaptation of in Hollywood).

Unfortunately I have to say that Anime right now is taking a turn towards a closeted society, the majority of animes being released today are either for children or young teens and often targets young-male testosterone (the sex and violence factor);- which over the last 3 years has driven me away from Anime almost entirely, with no new interesting Animes being released I have little to watch and usually resort to re-watching Anime made in the late 80s through the 90s.

We need to return to a more mature state of anime, or at least level it out. I think the only anime still not in general terrible is animated films, they have higher budgets and almost always are geared towards adults as well as kids. I'll remain cautiously optimistic for the future when I can sit down again with my girlfriend and watch a new anime without being embarrassed by the ridiculous storyline and horn-dog humor.

lol, oh and I forgot to mention on the actual point of the topic. I have a few friends who do enjoy anime but for the most part they watch the kind of anime I dislike so we don't have too much in common when it comes to talking about it; however anime is like most of my hobbies, I enjoy them alone- my pool of friends is pretty low because I'm not a social person so naturally things are lonely; but I choose to live my life this way, I could be more social and enjoy social activities if I desired it, but to me it's not worth the effort.
