What is your opinion as to why anime is nerdy?

1: how do u define 'nerdy' i always thought a nerd was the intellectual type with no physical output whats-o-ever. im dumb as stones and quite athletic and i still love my anime.

2: I think our obsession with fantasy is more of a fascination. personally i'd love to run on water throw some shurikan before using my zampakto to blow up a building and rain down hell with my psychic abilitys. that'd be a way cooler life then jim how lives down the block and and works 9-5 at sobey's!!

3: cosplay, doll collection, AMVs what ever works for u. doll collecting i don't fully understand but i don't know how the garbage man gets up and does his job EVERY DAY ether!! and while i haven't done any cosplay i have to say that some ppl put in a lot of effort and i have often found myself surprised.

4: and as 'Kariudo' said, it is true that most of the anime down here is pokemon, digimon ect. but last time i checked pokemon was the $h!t when i was a kid and most ppl think thats all there is to anime. Deathnote, Bleach, Busou Renkin, Clannad, Cowboy Bebop ppl don't even know they exist and if they did im sure that they'd have a better perspective.

I personally don't think anime is nerdy now but I used to, and I think that was just because that's what everyone else thought. Just another thing that people belived to be true because that's what they heard from others.

We are flooded with the majority opinion of others throughout our lives and we can't help but think that is the truth until we are proven otherwise.

There's nothing basically nerdy about anime itself (or figurines or cosplay for that matter), but, like all hobbies and interests, it can be taken to an extreme.

I agree. Someone can take their admiration for anime too far, but that can be said for almost any hobby.

Summary: Anime is not nerdy but it can be veiwed that way.

Summary: Anime can be a nerdy hobby; like anything: it depends on the person. Is there a large margin of people who take it too seriously? Well, google "anime" and find out for yourself, though again, you could probably do this for any hobby or subject.

Do anime fans tend to be significantly nerdier than otherwise? In my opinion: yes. Though that's entirely because of the much wider spectrum anime has over other forms of media. The many genres it takes, being book and video-formatted.[Anime Manga], action figures to dolls and *ahem* adult merchandise.

Geeks are not as smart, however are still into something more then you average person would be. They however can speak to girls and not have a mental brakedown before doing so.

You can also "be a geek" for something and not actually BE a geek. Everyone "geeks" out for something in their life. They get more excited then those around them for one particular thing.

I think society (at least, my society's) sees anything that doesn't involve movement as nerdy.

Watching TV too much is nerdy
Reading books is nerdy
Playing Magic the Gathering past the age of 17 is nerdy
Playing Video games is nerdy
Watching anime is nerdy
Building models is nerdy
Masterbation is nerdy... wait a second...

The list is too fecking long and it's full of idiots describing nerdy things. Of course, I'm a martial artist, rock climber, swimmer, and runner, so I fall under the world's best blend of human, NERDY JOCK!! I loved chemistry, sci-fi, and have recently moved into the realm of finance and stock options business.

Anime is nerdy to the uninformed and uneducated masses who think with things aside from their brains. The best way to avoid this condescending statement is to look at yourself and do something that's non-nerdy. I hear exercise and fitness can add that extra 'punch' to a nerd that's needed to be 'da man / woman' that society needs.

Anime nerdy? HELL NAW...
