flv audio

Post by Garridy » Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:06 pm

So, I have a short clip that I want to take audio from, problem is its an flv file since I could only get it from a streaming site. What would be the best way to get the audio from it?

The easy dirty way:

Start Audacity
Click the Record button at the top (the red circle)
Play the video segment with whatever player you prefer
Click Stop (the yellow square)
Select File, Export As WAV...
Name the file and click Save

Oh, and make sure you have "What U Hear" selected in the upper right corner of the default layout since it make it easier (just don't go clicking things to make Windows system sounds).

FLV Extract:

VirtualDub should also be able to do it, provided you use one of the newer versions that accept input plugins (that functionality is provided by the FLV plugin).

FLV actually just uses MP3 streams, unless there's been an update to the standard which allows for another format (like AAC, most likely).

AviSynth can do it as well. If you can play the FLV in WMP, then DirectShowSource is more than capable of handling it. FFmpegSource probably can too, but I've never tried.
