Simoun (I suspect it`s not new to most)
Well I just watched the 26 ep series in two days. I think that makes it worth comment.
So maybe this 2006 series sneaked past you.

But I think it is worth giving it a second go at mention.

It interested me greatly, I've seen ~6 episodes thus far. The whole lesbian thing pulled me in to begin with, but its own merit as a story has kept me going.

Yeah I thought 'yuri' friendly, but, well, technically they are not gender established (according to the story eh).
And if the story says they ain't gender specific yet, then that means they ain't lesbians officially.

You obviously missed the line above that one.Ishbalan wrote:Gurren Lagann would like to have a talk with you.The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:Simoun is the most awesome "mech" anime ever

Here. I'll quote it for you.
Though, to be fair, they aren't really mechs so much as weird planes that fire magic bullets using aerial acrobatics.Me wrote: Lesbian kisses power "mechs"

Oh, NOW we have people interested it this?!
Granted the first episodes were one gigantic conundrum that turned off a lot fans including fansubbers (except for one particular group) and me. The character development and relationships among the girls are definitely the high point in this series. And not to mention a good amount of plot points related to theocracy and gender-related relationships (remember this series takes place in world where everyone is born a female and has the opportunity to choose a gender when they become older).
This is pretty much the only sci-fi anime series that's able to tackle these issues at such an elegant and beautiful matter.
