Glowing edges effect
I'm looking for a way to create an effect similar to the one shown at the end of the movie The Last Dragon (the one where there's this orange glow around the edges of one of the actors).
Any suggestions?

Re: Glowing edges effect
Sure thing. Either of these examples illustrate the idea.

Re: Glowing edges effect
that's a bit quick and dirty, but i've done a crap key to isolate the character, then duplicated her a couple of times. the duplicates are placed below the 'main' image, they are blurred out a bit and blended in add mode.
it's gonna take some rough roto and/or keying to get the look you want, luckily the edges will be pretty forgiving if you glow over your subject (like the shot with the hands, just stick the duplicated layers on top), but you'll need to be fairly accurate if you want the glow behind.
edit: and you colourise the duplicated layers to get the particular glow that you want.

I think we can all agree that this looks much better.

Re: Glowing edges effect
there is a "dirty" cheat to glowing but you'll need Photo software with Layers;
just cast different shadows from all four corners .. then define the shadows as "..color.."
the only problem will be doing each frame with that process
the good news is that you can Shadow on to the main character as if she were CG.

Re: Glowing edges effect
So, how would I go about all this in Premiere/AE/Photoshop?

Re: Glowing edges effect
You could do it in Photoshop and use glow or export it then glow it in premiere.

I'm guessing I'll need a plugin. Pro 2.0 doesn't seem to have it.
