Does normalize make less changes in audio?

Hi,

I am kind of confused about what the AviSynth Normalize function does.
What I think it does is that it takes my audio and reduces volume differences.

If I use Normalize() on a video and move it onto a DVD to play on my TV, will I have to press the volume up and down buttons less?

If not, please tell me what other filter can do this for me.

It looks for the loudest part of audio in the clip, and it increases the volume of the entire clip until that loudest part is as loud as it can go without clipping. If you normalize all of your videos, then they will all have the same maximum volume.

Then, what filter makes it so my volume buttons on the TV doesn't have to keep being used?

You'd want a dynamic range compressor for that. I don't know whether AVISynth has that kind of filter, but audio editors like Audacity do.
