Trying to find a new anime

Post by Yogurtron » Tue May 19, 2009 1:03 am

Probably a question asked too many times before, but I would like to see what the a-m-v.org community says. I've not been into anime much for the past few years, and would like some recommendations of what new (preferably unlicensed) anime to take a look at.

Past series that I've enjoyed include InuYasha, Ah My Goddess (remake and original), Full Metal Panic (seasons 1 and 2), Kare Kano, Love Hina, and even back to Trigun and Tenchi Muyo.

Given those as a place to start, does anybody have any suggestions on new animes to watch?

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (licensed, but the sub-only dvds at Best buy are pretty cheap)

Clannad (again licensed, but the dvds are cheap [sub only]) and Clannad After Story (not licensed...yet, but heads will roll if it isn't). Yes Clannad was in the pic I linked to, but it's so good that it deserves another rec.

Can't really think of anything else atm that is unlicensed and goes along with what you've seen

Go watch Lucky Star, Code Geass, Haruhi Suzumiya, K-ON, Kanon, Air and Minami-ke. Also go watch CLANNAD (NOW!)

And if you've only watched seasons 1 and 2 of Full Metal Panic, you need to check out season 3 FMP: Fumoffu!? It's nothing like the 1st and 2nd season and is definitely on my favorites list.

Wow you have a broad taste in anime and it's kinda hard to recommend you anything. I suggest this site http://www.animeacademy.com/ and see if any reviewer there have the same broad taste as you.

I dont know who the idiot put that pic together but some of those shows don't match the main genre.

FMP TSR, Code Geass, and Evangelion should be placed under Mecha.

Escaflowne should be placed under either on Fantasy, Romance, or Mecha.

Noein is obviously a Sci-fi anime. So is Ghost in the Shell TV.

Clannad under Comedy? I thought it was mostly Drama. Blah whatever..

Darker than Black is more Action than Mystery.

12 Kingdoms a Drama? I'm pretty sure it's a Fantasy/Adventure type.
