Memento - Best Editing Anime Boston 2009
My second finished AMV. Won Best Editing at Anime Boston 2009. Any critique would be appreciated, as I've only been making AMVs for about a year and I've relied solely on the critique of my friends. I apologize for the quality, as I'm still learning how to make it better. Thanks! =D

Holy crap, pretty nice editing and awesome song choice, i totally loved it
I can only complain about a couple of little parts here and there, plus the visual quality and the logo u did to mark it as yours.
I wish u could re-render this without the logo (but having proper credits) and with a better quality D:

I personally didn't like this video too much at all. Sorry to be harsh but I can't say the editing looked good to me, and I find it pretty crazy that this won best editing at AB. As far as the video goes as a whole, it's the same old 5cm shtick we've all seen 1000 times. For a second video however, it was pretty fantastic. If you improve with every video like that you're on your way to greatness for sure.

Re: Memento - Best Editing Anime Boston 2009
Thanks for your honesty, guys. I'm working on learning how to make better quality videos, and I'll probably redo this one when I figure it all out. As for the watermark, maybe it is a bit much. It's only there because my first video got stolen, even before it made it onto this website (it's still not up -_-). I suppose that's the risk everyone takes though. I'll think about removing it. Thanks again! =)

it was pretty enjoyable besides the quality issues that were pointed out, but to me it was nice, although some parts seemes a little too fast for me.

I don't know how Anime Boston judges, but from the category title, "Best Editing" should have nothing to do with the sources themselves, but instead how they were put together by the editor. There is a separate category for Best of Show.SaitoXD wrote:the anime of choice looks like a flash game.
btw, either you've been hiding under a rock or you're new to anime. >_>
Quite a few Shinkai-based AMVs have been released and a good number of well edited videos using it have won awards at conventions...
His work is fairly popular:

(You're free to have an opinion of course. Just saying this since it seems you are not familiar with the source.)
Re: Video
Honestly though, this video's visual quality is fairly lacking. It appears as though it was either resized up from a lower resolution, de-interlaced improperly, or both.
The guides on this site should be able to help you.

As for the watermark, I agree it is distracting and makes the video less enjoyable for those of us that keep glancing at it as the video plays. IMHO, it seems somewhat silly to use them when you don't own the copyright on the video and music you used in the video. A more creative route would be better. For example, Notromo occasionally embeds his name into his videos in a way that does not look poorly edited or out of place. Most of us just opt for a credits section of the video. I personally could care less what people do with my videos as long as it is not for monetary gain or entered into an amv contest.
