Well... I've never done this before. I'm not a hugely avid user of the org forums, so if I do anything horribly wrong, hopefully someone will advise me otherwise ^^'

And BTW, this is my first ever attempt at romance/sentimental. You've been warned.



Normally I don't believe in naming my AMVs after the song title, but I think Matthew Price (the lead singer) had it right when he named this song. Price wrote this song shortly after the death of his grandfather, but since there are practically no animes featuring the death of a character's close relative (*sarcasm*) and I've been loving editing with ToS, I figured romance would work instead

I had initially posted this on YouTube but I wanted some real criticism, not the generic warm fuzzies one tends to recieve on YT. So... constructive criticism is always much appreciated. Thanks in advance

EDIT: For the record, I hate the film effect as much as the rest of you. I'm actually thinking of removing it, but I'd need some suggestions of what to replace it with. Any thoughts?

Edit: i liked it but when she said "lloyd" in the beggining sounded a little weird and random, also the weird greenish color changed was weird. Also the quality could have been a little bit better and the end was a little hard to see.

Sorry it took me awhile to get around to watching this.

I think the video had a good concept and the editing was well done. I liked that you went back and forth between the battle and the memories. It really helped the establish the drama. I actually have no knowledge of the story of the video source, but I really got your video. I like the emotion in this video and will be keeping it

The only thing about the editing that I'm not sure if the film effect was the right way to take, but it did suit the mood. My problem with it was when I looked at the parts with the film effect, I thought that I was looking at memories, rather than what was happening presently in the video. For next time, I think that you should explore what else you can do to establish the mood of the song.

One thing to really improve on is your quality. A lot of the stuff was pretty blurry and I could see jagged outlines on a lot of the characters. The blurry quality could be from working with low quality footage and improper compression. Next time, use the DVDs to get good quality. The jagged outlines could be from improper de-interlacing, for that I recommend using AVIsynth.

For compression: The file size is pretty big. A video that length and resolution could be a little over 30MB if you were to compress it to an h.264 MP4 using Zarxgui. If you get lost using it, here's a guide to help you.

I really like this video and would love a higher quality version if possible.

It projected a strong story that kept me interested. The mood was just right and the use of transitions was done well and flowed well with the song.

The ending was a little sudden for me and the visual quality could have been improved.

Overall, good job and I enjoyed it ;D.

Not bad, but not mindblowing either. The editing was good, although all that grungy noise at the beginning was just... ugh... not that fitting let's say, it setted a mood darker than the one needed. As for scene selection it was decently done, and fades were well placed, but that's about it. The song didn't really help to grasp my attention since I didn't exactly like it, but it was decently edited after all. Quality needed quite some work too (what's up with those deinterlacing artifacts, seriously?). Overall, a nice first try at romance/sentimental, I think I'll give this a 3/5, not bad but not amazing.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the film effect, but I screwed up my deadline (for some reason I thought it was a Tuesday, not Sunday... WTF kind of deadline is on a Tuesday? >.>), so I was trying to finish off the video in about 4 hours. If you can actually help me with this, it would be so very much appreciated! I've been having huge issues compressing for the org - I'm currently using MPEG Stream Clip, and I would definitely prefer something else, but it's the best I've been able to find for Mac OSX.

As far as quality goes, my footage is actually decently high quality. I'm getting so very frustrated with Premiere CS4, because no matter what I do to the export settings, it always screws with the AR and makes it fullscreen! So I have to convert the AR back using MPEG Stream Clip, which absolutely decimates the quality. I know that's more of a question for the Adobe/technical editing forums, but if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great.

Even if some of the effects at the start and end weren't really my taste there was a solid story line and it was just pretty dang awesome O:.

Considering it's your first sentimental, it's pretty good ^^ Had a good sense of emotion, and a cohesive storyline. Although, there were parts of it that I liked much better than others. The ending seemed a little weak, particularly having him shout Collette (just sounded off), and it felt unresolved in some ways. I also wasn't a fan of the lead in. Almost lost my interest right there. But once you were into it, it pulled you along pretty steadily.
