The probability of this bill passing is pretty low the visual novel fan base in japan creates a good chuck of game selling economy and since the economy is already in bad shape I doubt that they are willing to take it down more, but stranger things have happen if it does though "story" will be brought back which would mean more novels like Little Busters or Ever 17 will be on the market.

But the problem is it would be more likely to simply kill the market altogether. Therefore no new VNs. Most Japanese Otaku play the VNs for the H anyways. There are like 2 food VNs for ever 50 crap ones in Japan. And then there is dating sims which sell just as well as VNs but you don't really find them in North America, and nobody translates them.

True it was sort of a joke. At most what will happen is the names of the novels will be changed such as "The Gang Rape Club" to something like " The Group Fun Club" or something ridiculous like that, but we won't know till it happens sadly.

Yah, Japanese have been known for being rather good at finding loopholes and avoiding censors. As far as I've heard.

double post but relevant possibility of increasing professional translations and sales of visual novels outside of japan.
English-speaking fans are in for a treat - the new licenses announced at AX from MangaGamer and JAST!

First off, I'll start with JAST.

Second, we have MangaGamer. ^_^

Higurashi and Shuffle are now licensed!! (and many, many other companies have also joined them as well!)
