I don't try hard.
I get hard.
I get hard.

I agree with this.ZetZu wrote:Depends on what you are creating, some compositions do take a lot of effort. Also, I might speak just for myself now but, don't we all create amv's because we enjoy the hobby? It's not about the effort you put into it while creating something, it's about how you feel about the editing progress. If you feel bored as fuck and get sick of the project while making it, then what's the point?
It's not about laziness it's about motivation and self-satisfaction.
At least that's what I think.
Anytime a project is "hard" for me, I keep going and going because the harder it is, the more I enjoy the end-product and that's where the self-satisfaction comes in for me.
What I mean by "hard", I mean time consuming, causing me to think, and actually motivate myself doing it. Yeah, it started out as a fun hobby for me but grew into these factors.

Being motivated enough to get started is hard.

editing amv was only passively anyways. I got a camera now, and I'm learning how to write my own songs.

I've only just started, and I will admit that there are points where you really have to try...but then I remember a quote someone said a little while back:
"If you have to work too hard to try to make something work, then maybe it's not meant to work."
For my last vid, there were points when I couldn't see at all how I was going to make the majority of scenes come together in any semblance of order, and after a few hours (and a bottle of vodka), everything just started to fall into place.
Making AMVs, I realise that I would like others to like them, but what counts the most is if I like it, it's not like I'm making them to compete or anything as such...just how much effort are you willing to spend on something that you want to do.

Re: do you think you could try hard with you videos ?
It's when I try the hardest that I screw up. I'll be the first to admit most of my stuff is crap, but it's when I'm motivated or inspired that quality comes out. You can't force a good video, you can however force garbage. Likewise force can turn a masterpiece into nonsense. Now if you mean self-editing, no video, movie, song, etc, is perfect; hence always room to improve. I know for a fact that no one here (surely self included) would fail to see improvement with further self editing. At that rate it could be said that everyone can "force" themselves at adhere to greater quality control. But to "force" greater concept development or skill is in many ways a contradiction. There are some aspect of the hobby that should come naturally. That video you always see in the back of your head while listening to the radio, the perfect mesh of layers, finding just the right color to set the mood, these are all subconscious development, skills that can only be learned and progressed. Surely not forced.
