This is kind of a random question but... do the AMV creators who are in the finals get to have a seat without waiting in that line?

the creators just already have their tickets from the AMV 101 panel, so they wait in the "omg we have our tickets already" line and thus getting in earlier.Someday Soon wrote:This is kind of a random question but... do the AMV creators who are in the finals get to have a seat without waiting in that line?

Do you realize you too are a huge part of the problem? If there is one person who is singlehandedly setting us back 7 years it is you sir. As all those "lesser" editors with their "crap" all come from that abortion you dare to call an "AMV workshop." If I had attended myself I would have probably drop kicked that arrogant smirk off your face right then and there. Those people deserve better than to listen to you circle jerking old men and talking about how great you once were, only to follow up with telling these poor people to encode to DV rather than lossless and de-interlace in Premiere.MisterFurious wrote:And here is where you admit that you are part of the problem. I'm sure you're not the only AMV creator who became disillusioned with AX following the fiascos of the lost videos. However, by not entering, all prideful editors have opened the door for lesser editors to create crap and be rewarded with nominations and, in some cases, awards.Pwolf wrote:I havn't entered a video into AX for a few years because I didn't like how it was run
It's simple math. AX needs to pull 28 videos from a pool of all entries. If that pool is smaller because people aren't entering, then the quality suffers. It's not rocket science.
Stop complaining about the quality, step up to the plate, and submit kick-ass videos! The contest will be all the better for it.
However rather than indulging myself in drop kicking you in the face, I will take up your challenge and be sure to attend as well as submit to AX 2010. If only to to look down on a outdated old man who doesn't belong anymore. You are clearly what one would call "legacy rubbish." Decent once, but unable to get with the times.
See you next year Brad. Don't grin too much though as I might wipe the floor with you.

Re: TheAX AMV Contest 2009 Finalists are...
Well, the contest this year was the weakest I've seen in years. As it's been said with the categorizing fiasco aside, many of the videos lacked the substance and editing expected of an AMV contest finalist, especially for a contest that gets hundreds of entries. I believe the action category suffered mostly because of the lack of an upbeat/dance category. So creators with anything not drama or comedy had to squeeze it into action, resulting in some out of place entries. Comedy was the most solid this year with videos that had a good deal of thought and difficult editing. As for Pro, well lets just say that comedy had more technical editing and polish than the pro category did. Almost all videos in the Pro category didn't show the amount of flair and professionalism that is to be expected from a pro category. I don't want to put down any of the entrants, but it was a very disappointing category for the one that should have the highest standard of editing.
The contest event on the staff side was run the best in years. It started on time, no technical difficulties, had a large turnout, and the pre-show AMVs were a great touch that I hope keeps happening in future years.

x2. Very good idea Vlad. It doesn't make alot of sense for the general audience to be judging a category like pro that should be analyzing the entries on a professional and in-depth scale. And we need upbeat back for all the dance vids/etc. Just cut each category next year by one vid and you're more than half there guys.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:In terms of having both Judges and Audience choices, I think in some ways that adds in too many winners and reduces the amount of choices to keep the total winners down in some cases… I think if upbeat/Fun was added, have pro category done by the judges if it is defined the way it is and make best of show just Audience Favorite, then I think that would make the contest much better and still continue to have the uniqueness of how AX does it. Otherwise I like the contest the way it is done…

Uhm I think this post is more of a personal attack than constructive. You can feel how you want and whatnot, but bad form Mitch.Niotex wrote:Do you realize you too are a huge part of the problem? Re: TheAX AMV Contest 2009 Finalists are...
If i were you, i'd download some of these videos and watch em yourself before reading into it :\ especially taking the view points of the critiques on this forum, some may be skewed. judge it for yourselfPwolf wrote:I'm not talking about any one video specifically. I'm talking in general based on what I've read about the quality of the videos in the contest.
Yes, true, but we are talking about multiple videos with problems and a general consensus that the majority of the videos sucked.
It is like judging a book by reading a review from the new york times. its biased.
but granted yes, there were some videos that were so-so.
but! my video didn't suck!
Pwolf wrote: I know what he is saying and I disagree. I've been doing this for 9 1/2 years and I cannot watch a video without taking into consideration the technical challenges. If an editor doesn't fix the simple stuff, it makes them look lazy. There are situations where the editor might miss something but based on what i've read, the blatantly obvious errors should be fixed before the video is completed.
Ok that makes sense...i agree then.
I know i personally try to go into great care to make sure my videos are correct in the technical means.
This is good that you are speaking up! If that is the case Pwolf, i prolly would've taken your stance as well.Pwolf wrote: I stopped sending to AX because I disagreed with the staff's decisions. I've waited the 2-3 years it's been with the new staff in hopes I would hear good things. Unfortunately I'm not hearing a lot of good coming out of it. Part of my rant here has to do with my overall frustration with how contest coordinators are managing their contests. It feels like they are getting lazy. We are basically allowing editors to disregard all the basics and fundamentals of video editing. A video should be judged based on the quality of the editing and that includes the technical aspect, not wither or not the audience is going to get a laugh.
You would've seen one of my videos in the contest if the coordinator allowed it (30 seconds too long). Its a little disheartening to hear about a video who's editor is lazy about making it presentable can enter the contest while a video who's editor spends a great deal of time and effort into making his video look the best can't enter the video because it's 30 seconds too long (which means nothing about how well the video is).
Certain AMVs in this year probably were not up to par, and if you got DQed for 30 seconds, then i understand where you are coming from.
We finished AMVs in good time this year, and everything went smoothly. I am not the contest coordinator, but if i were, i would have screen your video. (if there was absolutely no way for you to cut it down).

I have read through this thread, and although i agree with some points, I disagree with others.
I only have one question.
Do you like tamale?
Hot hot tamale?
My personal stance, after carefully deliberating over all the evidence, I have come to a single unrefutable epiphany...
