WMM vista reading AVI files as Audio Files u-u'

Post by Kiikii » Sat Jul 11, 2009 12:34 am

Ok, So i bought a laptop recently, and Have installed all the codecs and such, AMVapp 2.0 Blah blah blah, VLC.

I can play my AVI files just fine,

But when i go to do simple editing in my windows movie maker vista, It uploads the files as audio files. Which is highly frustrating.

On my old computer, It read AVI files as video files, Why is it not doing the same now? and how do i get it to see them as video files and not as audio files

((please keep in mind i can play all of my files just fine, I can even watch AVI's in windows media player. ))

you can try right-clicking the file, then click properties, go to the summary tab and click advanced.

if that doesn't work, get gspot

Have you tried importing the offending clip on a clean Windows movie maker project ?

open gspot, drag and drop the file that you want information on into gspot's window

press ctrl+prt scrn to take a screenshot of just the gspot window.(might have to press ctrl + fn + prnt scrn if you're using a laptop)
paste the screenshot into paint, save, imageshack it and then post the screenshot here.

Alternatively, you could read the gspot guide and tell us which codec it says the file uses (Codec Name is what we're looking for)

You've probably got a DivX or Xvid codec. Video editing software hates those. Sony Vegas does the same with my videos and Movie Maker won't even import them.
