Hello ^_^ I'm having a problem with the Zar264gui...

Post by SketchH » Wed Jul 29, 2009 5:55 pm

I downloaded the package offered on a-m-v.org instead of downloading it all individually. However, when I'm done with my amv, I try to compress my avi video using the Zar264gui, but every time I try, it says: "AVISource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc MP42" Therefore, I am unable to do anything with my large amv. I'm not sure what went wrong or how to correct it, and I was wondering if any of you could help me out.

Thank in advance for all of your help. I greatly appreciate it. Take Care. :book:

MP42? Sounds like you exported with a weird codec (as in, one that avisource doesn't recognize). Try to go with uncompressed instead.

It says that for any avi file I try to convert.

I mean, when I try to import it into the program, that is the error I recieve. It doesn't even give me the chance to try and export it.

He means when you export it from your editing program.
You are exporting to a crappy format.

hmm...that may be the case. But I just select avi from the editing program. What format should I be editing it to? As far as I know, it has not let me compress any avi files from any source. Surely not every avi format in existance is bad.

Use uncompressed avi.

'MP42' is the FourCC used by Microsoft MPEG-4v2, which for some odd reason tends to be very popular as a distribution format with Japanese MAD editors, as I noted a couple years ago (if I remember right, it was v3 that was hacked by Gej to become the original DivX;) ). Even with DivX 5/6's and XviD 1.xx's encoders being fully mature for several years at that point. That's just an anecdote, though.

ffdshow supports MP42, though. More info here:
