People stealing AMV's and posting them on the Tube is kinda normal

Editing out peoples details isn't that normal though o.o, very lame. I think as long as the video isn't edited and all credit is giving to the creator its not such a bad thing, after all your work is reaching a larger audience the more people distribute it.

Actually, it's quite common. On this site, and on Yoûtube. I can't even count how many threads we've seen exactly like this one. It happens. *shrug*

I've only seen a few over the years tbh, but then again...i don't search Yoútube for new AMV's, and i only ever lurk in the announcement section here ;x

I seen where a fan took it to another level and put their username right over the original watermark,
where the original editor's name was see-able but covered nonetheless.

I had one person take clips from a "watermarked" video of mine (it was only watermarked due to the mep it was in). I left her comments saying how cool I was to have my name in her video, she just agreed with me.. (I'm not sure if she realized, or not, that I was calling her out on it.)

I don't stalk too many sites to see if people steal my videos - with so many streaming sites these days the "control" we used to have is a little more lost now... not that we had much to begin with, anyone could have taken a video off of the org, deleted all the credits, then uploaded it to some other site claiming it as their's.

I think the worst incident I remember hearing about was when someone submitted a video to a con - it was one of Aluminum Studio's Sailor Moon vids if I recall.. (When I heard that it was such a wow moment, if you are gonna steal something like that, don't steal something that is well known, or you will just make yourself look stupid.)

I hate to say, it but this stuff just breeds the kind of paranoia that irks me where people fear the big bad amv thief will take their work and claim it as their own, so they watermark, they only upload to streaming sites (because I suppose they don't realize how easy it is to snag a video off of one of those places), and do all sorts of icky stuff, just to "stop" the "thieves". There goes my days of having clean, shiny copies of videos I might like.

I donno, as long as my friends and family and the important people know that I was the one who made it, then that's all that really matters.. But then again my interaction with amv thieves always went more like this:

"hey, I'm glad you like my video and all, but why you cut off my credits? "
/video deleted

"oh that's cool, my video is up there with a whole bunch of other really awesome videos, I wish you didn't cut off my credits though."
/video deleted

I am not concerned by YouTube thieves at all.

It's CON thieves that concern me. I've had this happen more than once, and like Dax said above, talk about stupid. When my betatesters are sitting in the audience of most major cons, the contest coordinator will find out. Enjoy your banned.

Yeah, youtube I could care less about, but con thievery is just lame as hell. Still not much you can do about it, but I think it's really cool that there are enough of us at enough cons to kinda get each other's backs on it. All in all though, people will still do stuff like that, and the best thing you can do is just take it as a compliment.

Best you could do take it down is flagging it, and chances are it will be reviewed by an admin and be removed (based on the fact it's using copyrighted anime than editing being stolen from you). This reminded me of the topic http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... =2&t=96602 that was somehow alike.
You can't stop them from stealing your videos, even if you stop using the Org, unless you make private videos for people you know and want to show the video to. See it this way, if you're getting stolen it's because someone really gives a damn about your AMV, which is good.

All in all though, people will still do stuff like that, and the best thing you can do is just take it as a compliment.

Kinda what I thought, getting ripped off on a con would be worse, but still if it won, you would be the guy who edited the video, which is, bah, enough for me.

Please don't get mad at me, this is the first that I've ever used the a-m-v.org forum, I never read or used forums at all till just recently and don't even use them much even now.

I actually continue to make videos not only because I'm a fan and my love for it, but the videos are also for my portfolio to show my editing skills since I'm trying to become a film editor since amvs can be used for that purpose. (which is one reason I have sooooo many video entries, I don't do this to be popular or anything like that). I also use my videos for contests and events at work too for everyone to enjoy. Hearing what people think does make me happy and want to continue making amvs. Many fans in the area I'm in know my work and wish for it to be up, but they are way too large since I care about quality work and I have to keep it to myself and among friends to keep it as portfolio material so the person asking about my work will know it's mine alone (which is why I can't afford to have my stuff stolen and posted under a different person's name. It doesn't look good if you are trying to get a job, if you have to prove that video is something you edited, since some interviewers to look into your work.) That video that was taken of mine was a school project I did, which I have in my portfolio to show my earlier works from school, but now I need to reconsider taking it out because of what happened (I had it up for load for fans to enjoy before know things like this could happen before YTube was ever around or even if it was around at that time I posted it, not knowning about that site).

That's why I wish fans wouldn't get mad at me for my many reasons for not putting up my videos and take an understanding as my position as an person trying to become a professional.

I know about copyright laws and things like that, That's why I never wanted my videos up on YTube in the first place and why I want my videos taken down off YTube if I see them up.

Sorry to intrude in on the God complex here, but I think it's worth pointing out that your case for submitting formal takedowns to YouTube is tenuous at best. (If you know about US copyright law, you should also know about DMCA takedown procedures and what they require.)

If control is indeed so paramount in your priorities, the best you can hope for is to

(1) flag your videos as unauthorized and hope Google gets around to it at some point, and
(2) never distribute anything that you cannot unambiguously claim full copyright to ever again.

Sounds like you're going to do #2 already, so all you need to do now is #1.
