Re: Hentai Music Video Awards at Fanime 2010
I am working on a vid. Only a couple hours each weak at work, but it's coming along (excuse the pun).

What about vids that aren't outright hentai but not family friendly either?

Re: Hentai Music Video Awards at Fanime 2010
I'm working on the formal rules at the moment, but to answer some of your questions:
No Yaoi (different target audience. Might be able to sponsor it next year, but one year at a time)
No Guro (eww)
No Scat (eww)
"Lesbian" hentai is okay, although I've yet to really see much hardcore Yuri
Futanari is allowed
All characters must appear to be over 18 or at least not appear to break any laws
mirkosp, I'm not sure what you mean. Since this is the HMV awards you probably want to have some hentai in it. If the people want it I might create some kind of tease/blue balls category.

I was thinking about sending "Dedicated To #AMV" (link in my sig), since it gets DQed in family friendly contest and got into awa expo only as a mature entry, but it's not exactly hentai... guess you'll have to check for yourself.AndreVSWorld wrote:mirkosp, I'm not sure what you mean. Can I send in a copy of my birth list? :<AndreVSWorld wrote:Well, you need to be at least 18 to attend the contest. If you cannot attend, no prize for you. I suppose I cannot confirm if someone who is submitting a video is over 18, but if you're not there you don't get a prize and someone else will win.
Nah, I cannot attend anyways...

If this is a US convention then actually there is no law against drawings of this manner. Just thought I'd point that out. But considering some of the content you are saying will not be allowed I suppose you don't care about the law aspect. Essentially, by not allowing Yaoi but allowing Yuri you're closing off a whole section of adult videos that could be submitted. Then throwing out scat and guro you're also killing other video type (and content) as well. Which then leads me to think that you are really only going for one type of video, hetero sex. And if that is the case, why allow Yuri? Oh, because your audience will like it. Ah, I see.AndreVSWorld wrote:All characters must appear to be over 18 or at least not appear to break any laws
Then wouldn't it be easier to just say only videos that would appeal to the standard, male, perverted otaku?
Case and point, the most requested videos that I play during my Hentai events happen to go against your content rules. Just thought I'd point that out.

Re: Hentai Music Video Awards at Fanime 2010
I'd have to agree. I have no interest in Yaoi or scat myself, but if some adult wants to watch that, fine by me.
I'd think maybe start out with the general, hetero sex types, then run the Yuri, and/or the Yaoi, then move into the rougher stuff like the bondage and the scat.
Seems odd to me to let Futanari in and keep Yaoi out, but I'm no expert. (to be honest I had to look that one up!)
Just like Christmas displays in parks or wherever - let everyone put up something nice.

Re: Hentai Music Video Awards at Fanime 2010
ngsilver, you make good points.
At Fanime the hentai and yaoi showings have been split up into two different rooms run by two different groups. There is some crossover between those who want to see yaoi and those who want to see hentai, but I would argue that I'd find more people who would come from the yaoi group and view hentai than vice versa. I am most certainly going after a specific audience for these specific awards simply based upon my experience both with the hentai nights and the fact that a good portion of those who go to watch the hentai nights don't want to see yaoi. Even the AVN Awards separated the GayVN awards over a decade ago. By trimming down what can be shown and what cannot be shown I'm pretty sure that the videos I'll get will be watchable by most of the audience. If most of that audience happens to be "the standard, male, perverted otaku", so be it. I eliminated scat and guro because I personally am very much unable to watch those kinds of items and quite honestly, if I show that off I'm far more likely to offend and seriously upset people than their banning will. This isn't a serious business awards ceremony.
Let me be perfectly clear: I have no problem with people choosing to watch scat, guro, yaoi, BDSM or anything else as long as it doesn't violate any legal issues (I only tacked that last bit on for CP). Hell, I'll even consider sponsoring awards for such things at another time, but at this moment I'm just trying to get this off the ground. If, at least three months before Fanime 2010, someone can convince me that they have sufficient videos to show a yaoi music video awards ceremony, I'll try my best to help out and maybe even cough up some money for awards, but I know I'm not the best person to judge yaoi and most certainly not the best to emcee the ceremony. But as of this moment, I am specifically aiming for the primary audience that goes to the hentai nights at Fanime and I'm fairly certain what I've included and excluded will work fairly well. Lines and limits have to be drawn somewhere. Violence is okay to a certain point and I'll even allow a certain amount of peeing, but that isn't really guro or scat, and I'll borrow from the SCOTUS and say that "... I know it when I see it."
I also would argue that the "lesbianism" I have seen in pretty much all hentai isn't real yuri or real lesbianism but is instead "porn lesbianism", hence why it is included. Futanari is, for some strange reason, far less threatening to most heterosexual males when it comes to their hentai and therefore it is included.
Lastly, yes, I do know that in the USA it has been ruled by the courts that depictions of people under the age of 18 engaging in sex isn't automatically illegal. However, I'd rather just avoid that whole debacle and any possible issues right from the get go. This is supposed to be fun and the last thing I want is to get arrested and taken to court because of something that was mailed to me.
TL;DR
The rules are what they are, but I don't think they'll really stop anyone from having fun. Also: some boys like girls who have penises.

It's definitely funny, but I wouldn't call it hentai.mirkosp wrote:I was thinking about sending "Dedicated To #AMV" (link in my sig), since it gets DQed in family friendly contest and got into awa expo only as a mature entry, but it's not exactly hentai... guess you'll have to check for yourself.
Also, the encoding on the video seemed really messed up and had artifacts all over the place. I don't think it was my machine but one never knows. You might want to check it and make sure it isn't messed up or something. It might just be me though.

2nd that. PG13, borderline R. Don't show it in middle-school.AndreVSWorld wrote:It's definitely funny, but I wouldn't call it hentai.
The closet thing to an artifact I saw seemed intentional. The low-resolution dancers. Other than that it played fine on my netbook.AndreVSWorld wrote:Also, the encoding on the video seemed really messed up and had artifacts all over the place.
