Bats In Your Grill

Post by Ellephino » Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:39 am

So this is my first attempt at scratching and lip syncing, and my first attempt to get some feedback from all you wonderful people. For the most part I was trying to match the lyrics with the video, loosely. "cardiac surgeon" = ultrasound technician, "treadmill" = bicycle, blah blah you get it. It's pretty far from perfect, but the guys who did the song seemed to like it. I'll have to make a graphic for the next one. I'd love to hear what you think

Well Jesus, don't everyone volunteer at once now.

I liked this; it's surprisingly how many more videos are being made with rap more recently. The change is good, I was getting tired of mediocre rock over and over again. As for your actual video itself I'm sure you are aware of how good this actually is. It's definitely a solid video: you acknowledge the scratches adequately, your cuts contain the right amount of movement, and you follow other minor editing "Do this" elements.

What you need to understand about rap though is it IS flowy, it does have rhythm. The way you edit is purely what the Org describes as "external sync" or "cut sync". You make your cuts in many ways as an element of sync and rarely (if at all) step outside of that in this video. I would love to see you play more with "internal sync" or getting the characters movements to somehow match up with the song. There were hints of that in this video, but never all out moments where it was obvious because you made a cut right after the motion.

Another minor complaint is the video length itself; I don't know about the average viewer, but I got bored around...well I guess from about 2:00 - 3:00 might as well have been a black space. I just zoned out, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it was the overall monotony of the editing that started to lull me off.

The ending of this video is where you completely lose it. The entire game over bit, the part where you recorded yourself...those shenanigans might work on Youtube but they're a bit ridiculous in a downloaded version, not to mention the fact that the grain from your camera will actually add dramatically to the video file size. I'd say avoid stunts like that on the Org.

Overall this is a solid if not mildly boring video. I'd give it a 2.5/5. The video quality is below superb and you really need to look up how to get better video quality. Also the black borders on the top and bottom of your footage are completely unnecessary, take those out.

If you want to know how "the big kids" get their video quality to look so nice, all you really have to do is read through the Video and Audio guide posted here on the Org, it'll answer any questions you may have about proper quality or encoding. The sooner you learn these skills the sooner people will stop bothering you about it, so I'd get to reading.

Yeah I don't think you subscribe to channels here. Thanks for all the feedback, I'll try to improve on future works and make stuff that's more interesting to watch.
