Video plays in preveiw but not when put on timeline

Running Vegas 9 Pro on Vista

Capturing video from Vdubmod with Lagarith. they were MKV. I made them avi.
Did so with one series already and it works fine.
moved on to the 2nd series:
--Original video source plays fine
--Seems to capture fine as well
--when captured will not play on VLC player and will either not play or freeze on Vegas timeline. BUT it will play perfectly on vegas's preveiw window BEFORE i put it on the timeline....

.....any idea?

try disabling resample (right click, switches, disable resample)
