Which would be the better choice to go for?
I believe that the video is nearly identical for the two versions. I'd have to have both versions to compare, but I only have the Special Edition which came out at the same time and has the same the same movie disc as the Regular Edition (which was re-released as the Signature Series version later) but came with a second DVD with extras. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that the DTS version has a DTS 5.1 Japanese language soundtrack replacing the SE and RE version's Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo Japanese track.

Personally, between the two, I'd go for the DTS version over the Signature Series version. Unfortunately for me, when I purchased my copy I wanted the extras of the Special Edition and the DTS version doesn't include the second disc so I had to settle for 2.0 JP audio. :( (The upside is that when I eventually get the Blu-ray version, it will have a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track for both languages and although the extras on it are pretty slim, I still have the DVD SE for that.)
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image

I got burned purchasing a bootlegged copy of 3X3 Eyes recently. I bought a real copy way back when (VHS) of the first season...but wanted to upgrade to DVD quality. I found it on Ebay and just assumed it was the real thing (as it had the correct cover)...but when actually got it it was a printed cover and when I watched the voices were completely different on the Eng dubbed. :-(. I was so used to my copy I couldn't stand it...It is in my closet now collecting dust.

Also - A box set with the words "perfect collection" is another indicator of a bootleg
